We’ve all heard the horror stories: once you’re in a sorority or fraternity, there’s no going back. Say “Goodbye!” to all of your non-Greek friends and DO NOT even think about being seen with people from other Greek organizations than your own. Luckily, from what I’ve seen so far during my time here at Furman, I can tell you that NONE of this is true.
Greek life is one of Furman’s many great attributes, not only for its commitment to service, scholarship, and camaraderie, but also for its emphasis on COMMUNITY. Each and every one of the sororities and fraternities found on campus fully support each other… in exception to friendly Homecoming competition of course (all I have to say about that is may the best team win). After all, even though we may wear different letters (or no letters at all), we all still have one thing in common: we are all Furman students!
That being said, some of my closest friends are independent girls as well as girls from other sororities, and although we don’t attend weekly Chapter meetings together or wear the same letter jerseys, we could not be any closer. We love our sisters, we love each other, and we love each and every member of the Furman community!
Here are a few pictures to give you an idea of what Greek life at Furman is all about…
