The Furman Fit

Hi friends!

With all the #FurmanBound kids out there, I wanted to share with y’all some tips that I wish I had when looking at Furman.

1) Meet a current student and ask them everything. Confused on where to start? Ask them their schedule! (not just which classes but what do they do outside of the classroom). Ask about what sports games they attend, what’s their favorite Furman community activity, or what is their favorite food creation in the dining hall? most of the times, students feel like the must ask “smart” questions about admissions; however, while all of those are good resources also check about student life.

2) Find out what clubs or organizations are huge on campus. This will give you a sense of exactly what organizations are available and what students love to get involved. Look at big organizations to get a sense of large communities which people join and then look for those smaller organizations which are available which help you find your niche on campus. Furman’s student life staff do an excellent job of offering leadership opportunities to students from an early age in organizations. They help you develop areas of your self which aren’t necessarily refined in class.

3) Visit the campus in February or March. You want to be able to tour campus and visit classes when the students aren’t overwhelmed with exams and the class is in the middle of its discussion. You get a great idea of the natural flow of the day while getting to have those priceless spring moments (spring comedian, spring concert, and going on a hike with your best friend). Also if at all possible come for a visit during the academic week to get a sense of life on campus during a nomral day. If possible attend a Spring for Furman or Accepted Students Day (if you’ve been accepted to Furman). These special days are focused on celebrating Furman. Since I’m an ambassador, you might even have me on tour!

hope this helps!
