OLLI Directories are available for $3 in the OLLI office.

In January, OLLI will begin a year-long recognition of the 25th Anniversary of learning in retirement at Furman. We will celebrate this major milestone throughout 2018 and are looking for volunteers to help with all phases of planning and executing the events.  Please join us on Wednesday, October 4, 12:30-1:15 pm in HC105 for the anniversary kick-off meeting.  Come with celebration ideas and/or a willingness to volunteer a bit of time!  If you are unable to make it but would like to help, please contact Sally or Alan Bornmueller here.

Special Piano Presentation – On Friday, October 6 from 12 – 12:45 p.m., Furman University Professor of Piano, Ruby Morgan, will provide OLLI with a special piano event. She will preview, with commentary, some of her Faculty Recital, which will take place on Thursday, October 19 at 8 p.m. in Daniel Recital Hall. Reservations helpful; sign up in the OLLI Office.

Breakfast in the Furman Dining Hall!  Join your OLLI friends for breakfast, 8-10 a.m., on Tuesday, October 3.  Cost is just $6 for all-you-can-eat with your OLLI nametag.  Choices include made-to-order omelets, fruit, breads, eggs, bacon, coffee, juice, and much more.  Fix your plate and then enjoy your meal in the Faculty Dining Room, reserved that morning just for OLLI.  Thanks to Linda and Tom Nowlin for hosting!

Deadline Monday, October 2!  Have an idea for a new course but need to do a little research? OLLI members can receive grants of up to $2000 for costs associated with developing a new course or modifying an existing one. Application forms are available here or on the OLLI bulletin board in the Herring Center.

The Herring Center is a busy place while classes are in session.  Please remember that there’s a small window of time after a class ends for the next one to get set up.  If you are enjoying a conversation with a classmate or instructor, please continue those chats in the lobby.

Help another OLLI and take a survey on volunteering. The survey will close Friday, October 6. Thank you!

A note from our OLLI Librarians:  The Fall term has begun, and the Book Nook is ready for use by OLLI members. Thank you for the many donations. A few guidelines for contributions: newer books written within the last five years are preferred; please do not donate health, medical, or diet books; and books from these categories are especially appreciated—current best sellers, biographies, science fiction, history, political science, science, humor, gardening, hobbies, and philosophy. We are in particular need of large print books and audiobooks. If you have books that will not work for us, Miracle Hill, Friends of the Library, Salvation Army, and Goodwill are happy to accept donations. Everyone at OLLI is welcome to take books home. No need to sign anything or worry about a due date—just enjoy!

The Volunteer Committee is looking for new members! Minimal meetings required; enthusiasm and ideas a must! Please consider attending a meeting to learn more about the coming year. Whether you’re brand-new to OLLI or have been around for years, there’s a place for you. Interested? Contact Emily Herbac-Fluhrer.
