Save the date! This year’s Straight Talk summer lecture series, presented by OLLI and the Riley Institute at Furman, will take place Thursday evenings (6:30-8:30 p.m.), August 24, 31, and September 7. This year’s title is Media and Politics in a Post-Truth Era. We will be learning about fake news: where it comes from, why we believe it, how to guard against it, and what is being done to slow its spread.
What’s GOING ON at Furman University?
Help a Furman student! The Social Cognition and Aging Lab at Furman University is seeking participants for a short study. Participation involves completing a 30-minute online survey about interpersonal interaction and aging. Participants will be compensated with $3 at the end of the study. The only requirement is that you are 65 years of age or older. The study will be conducted in the Herring Center Computer Lab (HC104) at the following times. No need to RSVP.

Bridges to a Brighter Future, a program for high school students whose potential outdistances their circumstances, will hold their Career Expo on June 20, 7-9 p.m., on Furman’s campus. Organizers are looking for volunteers willing to talk to students about their own careers. If you are interested in participating, please sign up on this Google Doc. Learn more about Greenville’s bus system and associated challenges by taking a ride on a Greenlink bus! The Piedmont Health Foundation needs your help as they work to increase awareness about Greenlink. This two-hour event will take place on Wednesday, June 28. You’ll meet at Westminster Presbyterian Church on Augusta Road at 8:50 a.m., take a bus downtown, participate in a focus group (refreshments provided!), and then take the bus back to the church, arriving by 10:40 a.m. They are particularly interested in people who have never ridden the bus before.
