Summer registration continues!  Remember to pick up a brochure in the office, and a few more to share with friends and neighbors.  Summer is a great time to try OLLI for the first time.  Classes are just $30 and there is no membership requirement.

The Nominating Committee is pleased to announce the following slate for Council openings to be voted on at the Spring Luncheon on May 17: VP of Membership/President-Elect: Greg Peters; VP Finance and Administration: Steve Wetherby; Members at Large: Douglas Frazier and May Welborn.  Additional nominations can be made from the floor at the Spring Luncheon.  Thank you to Margaret Clark, VP/President Elect/Nominating Committee Chair and her committee for their work in putting this slate together, and thank you to the nominees who said “yes” when the committee asked!

 

Applications are being accepted for Class 3 of Senior Leaders Greenville. Senior Leaders Greenville

(SLG) builds awareness of the essential role of seniors in the community and the critical issues they face, empowering participants to become advocates seeking better lives for seniors in Greenville, the Upstate, and beyond. SLG begins with an Orientation in August, concludes with a graduation luncheon in May, and includes nine day-long sessions with speakers, group activities, and exercises that will inform you on topics relevant to seniors. The cost is $350 and scholarships are available. Applications (due June 1) and more information are available on the OLLI Website and in the OLLI office. Questions? TRAVEL WITH OLLI

Looking for a great Fall trip? You might consider the OLLI@Furman Road Scholar Multi Sport Adventure: Sea Kayaking, Bicycling and Hiking in Maine’s Acadia National Park.  Enjoy a spectacular outdoor adventure and experience seaside cliffs, ocean air and breathtaking views atop the highest peak along the Atlantic Coast.  This excursion will begin Sun., Sept. 11 and conclude Fri., Sept. 16, 2016.  Trip Rates*: $925 double occupancy, $1225 single occupancy.  Brochures are in the office. OLLI HAPPENINGS

Very Special Opportunity!  Dr. Lorraine DeJong, Associate Professor of Education, is teaching an intergenerational course on what it means to be a senior adult in today’s society May 8-29, 10-Noon at the Herring Center.  OLLI members are encouraged to attend one, two or ALL of the classes.  Daily topics for the course are available in the OLLI office. Please take a look at the topics and sign up to participate. Your involvement in this seminar will bring the topics alive for the college students and will definitely include lively discussions and excursions on topics of interest to both generations!

 

Looking to improvise and play some blues, jazz or rock with other OLLI members?  Do you sing, play guitar, bass guitar, drums, sax, flute, etc.?  Then we have the jam session for you! What’s GOING ON at Furman University?

South Carolina Defense Trial Attorneys Association presents the SCDTAA Trial Academy May 24-27. They are seeking 70 volunteers to serve as jurors on Fri., May 27. University of South Carolina is collecting data on South Carolina as a retirement destination. Data collected from current retirees will be used to develop and market South Carolina to potential and future retirees. You, as a current retiree in SC, can provide valuable feedback that will support South Carolina’s future goals by filling out the survey.
