10 Ways to Have a Blast at Homecoming

1. Get as much homework done as possible the week before. Trust me, you do not want to wake up the Sunday after Homecoming with a week’s worth of homework to do! Strategy is key.
2. Get involved! The best way to do this is to join an organization at Furman- such as the Greek community, Student Alumni Council, or Engaged Living- that participates in Homecoming events!
3. This one’s a no-brainer: compete in HAVOC! Seriously, several of my friends competed this year and they had a BLAST… Who wouldn’t want to camp out on the Furman Mall and abstain from showering for an entire week?
4. Go to the Horseplay Skits! Some of them are HILARIOUS, complete with more Furman inside jokes than you ever knew existed.
5. There will be free food. TONS of it. Take advantage of it.
6. Pomp like you’ve never pomped before! Pomp like you’re a seasoned pro! Seriously, POMP. Even if you are not in an organization that is participating in the float contest, your friends will be VERY grateful for your help.
7. After you’re finished pomping, explore the Carnival the night before the big game! Be sure to stay after for midnight swing dancing on the Mall!
8. Tailgate. Not only do you get to eat tons of (again) FREE FOOD with your friends, but you also get to meet Furman alumni. I absolutely loved meeting my sorority’s alumni who visited this past weekend, and it was so cool to see how connected Furman’s alumni still are to the university.
9. Go to the game, of course! (And no, do not leave after half-time)
10. Take pictures! Seriously. Did Homecoming even happen if you didn’t Instagram it? #hoco2k15
