Food, Fakes, Tourism, and Environment: New Posts, With Gratitude

Students in the 2015 Debunking the Myths of China First Year Seminar have completed their work creating, editing, commenting on, and revising their blog posts.

Food was the most popular category for posts this year. Posts include Talk Noodle to Me, Sweet and Sour America, and a series of posts on American-influenced foods coming to China (Americanized Chinese Food Invades China, The Golden Arches March into China, and The Colonel Infiltrates China).

Three posts explore counterfeit products, environmental issues, and tourism. These include iPhony: Fake Products Produced in China Hurting World Economy, Is China Polluting Environmental Activism?, and Chinese Village Tourism.

Furman senior Danielle Buckheister edited entries from previous blog contributors and helped improve the overall blog organization.

Special thanks to Libby Young and Jean Schwab from the Furman University Libraries for conducting a workshop for students on finding and evaluating images and sources for blog entries. Students appreciated learning how to write and link in a readable, blog-appropriate way.Dr. Tami Blumenfield conveys her gratitude to the many individuals who supported this blog creation.

Thanks to Corey Gheesling from Information Technology Services, for setting up the WordPress blog and helping troubleshoot technical issues.

We also thank chef and OLLI instructor Mei Li Trapasso, for teaching us all about Chinese cooking and the philosophies behind Chinese food.

Finally, none of our projects would be possible without the support of Dr. Silas Pearman, Lonita Stegall, and the First Year Seminar Committee, who funded projects and activities carried out as part of the course.

Thanks to all those who have contributed to this project! We look forward to your comments and reactions. Let us know: what else should we include on this blog?
