OLLI NOTES May 3, 2019
The OLLI Office is open 8:30-5 Monday-Thursday, and 8:30-4 on Fridays. Our number is 864-294-2998.

The Summer 2019 Brochure is available ONLINE and in the OLLI office. Registration for the summer term begins May 7. *BROCHURE CORRECTION* HFE589 Lets Get Fit will be held 1-2:00 p.m.

The stage is set for OLLI to celebrate another great year at our annual Spring Luncheon on Tues, May 21 at Timmons Arena. We will recognize incoming and outgoing Council members and of course, enjoy time with OLLI members before the summer is upon us. Doors open at 11:30 for fellowship (cash bar available). Enjoy a buffet lunch at noon including signature spinach salad with strawberries, grilled salmon, roasted chicken, three cheese polenta cake, seasonal vegetables, herb roasted potatoes, rolls and a selection of pies for dessert! Dress is casual. Sign up in the OLLI office for just $20 by Wednesday, May 15. Please notify Heidi Wright of any dietary restrictions. This is a limited run event, so sign up today!

The Furman University Dining Hall will be closed following lunch service on Tues., May 7. The Dining Hall will reopen on Wed., May 15. The Paladen, the Paddock, the Library Café, and the Bread and Bowl will close at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 7 for the summer. Visit HERE for hours and menus.

The Nominating Committee is pleased to announce the following slate for Council openings to be voted on at the Spring Luncheon on May 21: President-Elect/VP Membership: David Johnson; Members at Large: Paulette Payne and Justin Smith, and filling an unexpired two year term as Member at Large: Cheryl Cotner. Thank you to Sally Bornmueller, VP/President Elect/Nominating Committee Chair and her committee for their work in putting this slate together, and thank you to the nominees who said “yes” when the committee asked!

OLLI Appreciates Its Volunteers! Volunteers are the heart and soul of our OLLI program. Have you ever been a class liaison, taught a class, coordinated a bonus event, helped with social events, greeted new OLLI members, moved chairs, set up coffee, helped people register their cars, or helped stock the Book Nook? You are one of 800+ OLLI volunteers we truly appreciate and want to recognize! Please stop by the OLLI office to pick up your “V” sticker for your name tag which identifies you as a much Valued Volunteer in our OLLI community! Learn more about your community and find ways to use your skills and experience to make a difference through Senior Leaders Greenville (SLG). A program of OLLI@Furman, SLG builds awareness of the essential role of seniors in the community and the critical issues they face, empowering participants to become active players seeking better lives for seniors in Greenville, the Upstate, and beyond. OLLI Hand Chime group will present a mini-concert on Wednesday, May 15 at 12:20 p.m. in the Herring Center Manly Lobby. Our eleven hand chime ringers will play pieces to show what they have learned over three semesters of rehearsals. Bring your lunch and enjoy!

Art Appreciation Opportunity! Cathryn Rice’s OLLI Acrylics Class will have an Art Showing at the White Rabbit T.R. during the month of May. An artist reception will be held on Fri, May 3, 6:30-8:00 p.m.

What’s Going on at Furman?
Furman’s Social Cognition and Aging Lab is conducting a new study about how individuals of different ages and cultures define emotion words. At this time, we are seeking participants 60-80 years of age. This study is an online survey that you can complete from your own home. The survey is expected to take 30-50 minutes to complete and results will be compared to results collected in Germany. You will be compensated for your participation. Governor’s School for the Arts and Humanities Spring Choral Concert, May 3, 7:30 p.m., Daniel Chapel, Furman University Music Departments presents the Cantus Chamber Choir and the Governor’s School Choir, featuring 90 young musicians.
