Thinking of offering a class in the Fall 19 term? Please note that Course Proposal Forms are due on May 1.

The stage is set for OLLI to celebrate another great year at our annual Spring Luncheon on Tuesday, May 21 at Timmons Arena. We will recognize incoming and outgoing Council members and of course, enjoy time with OLLI members before the summer is upon us. Doors open at 11:30 for fellowship (cash bar available). Enjoy a buffet lunch at noon including signature spinach salad with strawberries, grilled salmon, roasted chicken, three cheese polenta cake, seasonal vegetables, herb roasted potatoes, rolls and a selection of pies for dessert! Dress is casual. Sign up in the OLLI office for just $20 by Wednesday, May 15. Please notify Heidi Wright of any dietary restrictions. This is a limited run event, so sign up today!

The Furman University Dining Hall will be closed following lunch service on Tues., May 7. The Dining Hall service will reopen on Wed., May 15.

Tuesday, April 30 is Dins Day! What’s a Din? That’s short for Paladin, Furman’s mascot. Dins Day is a day of celebration here at Furman. Show your Paladin Pride and wear your purple! You will also have an opportunity to make a gift to the OLLI Faculty Enrichment Fund, which supports Furman professors and student research and brings new programming to OLLI. Watch your inbox on Tuesday for details.

Learn more about your community and find ways to use your skills and experience to make a difference through Senior Leaders Greenville (SLG). A program of OLLI@Furman, SLG builds awareness of the essential role of seniors in the community and the critical issues they face, empowering participants to become active players seeking better lives for seniors in Greenville, the Upstate, and beyond. The class meets monthly for day-long sessions at locations around Greenville, September-May. Learn more on the website, and click here to apply for Class 6. What’s Going on at Furman?
Music Lovers! The Furman Symphony Orchestra (FSO) and Oratorio Chorus will present a concert Friday, April 26, at 8 p.m. in McAlister Auditorium on campus. The spring Oratorio, “Fauré Requiem, and Bizet L’Arlésienne Suites” is a Sound Quality Concert Series event presented by the Furman Department of Music. Tickets are $10 for seniors. Hit the Links! Furman Women’s Basketball presents the 9th Annual Golf Tournament on May 3. Registration at 10a.m. with a shotgun start at 11a.m at the Furman University Golf Course. Cost is $125 and includes golf, driving range, meals, beverage cart, and awards. Sponsorships available. All proceeds go to Furman Women’s Basketball. Email Rob Carson for more information.

Furman’s Social Cognition and Aging Lab is conducting a new study about how individuals of different ages and cultures define emotion words. At this time, we are seeking participants 60-80 years of age. This study is an online survey that you can complete from your own home. The survey is expected to take from 30-50 minutes for completion and results will be compared to results collected in Germany. You will be compensated for your participation. The Greenville County Library is offering a free event series called Rhythm & Rhymes: A Music & Poetry Series. Navy League Event Our May 7, 2019, dinner program at the Poinsett Club in Greenville will feature speaker LCDR Bob Overturf, USN (ret.). LCDR Overturf was an officer aboard the US Navy guided missile destroyer USS Cole in 2000, when it was attacked by al-Qaeda in the Yemen port of Aden and nearly sunk. This is an unusual opportunity to hear a first-hand account of a devastating event that marked the beginning of the War on Terror. Tickets are $33, including dinner.
