OLLI NOTES April 18, 2019

***On Wednesday, April 24 Furman will host Special Olympics on campus. Due to traffic and parking issues, most OLLI classes have been canceled that day (unless your class has discussed alternate plans). Announcements have been made in class and we will send reminder emails. The classes that WILL meet are: all 3:15 p.m. classes in the Herring Center, Carolina’s Lost Communities 10:45 a.m. at Daniel Recital Hall and The Constitution 1:30 p.m. at Daniel Recital Hall. Reminder for those meeting in Daniel Recital Hall – you will need to enter the campus from the front gate off of Poinsett Highway. Thank you for understanding as Furman helps celebrate these Special Olympians.***

The stage is set for OLLI to celebrate another great year at our annual Spring Luncheon on Tuesday, May 21 at Timmons Arena. We will recognize incoming and outgoing Council members and of course, enjoy time with OLLI members before the summer is upon us. Doors open at 11:30 for fellowship (cash bar available). Enjoy a buffet lunch at noon including signature spinach salad with strawberries, grilled salmon, roasted chicken, three cheese polenta cake, seasonal vegetables, herb roasted potatoes, rolls and a selection of pies for dessert! Dress is casual. Sign up in the OLLI office for just $20 by Wednesday, May 15. Please notify Heidi Wright of any dietary restrictions. This is a limited run event, so sign up today!

New to Greenville and interested in learning more about your new hometown? Lived here a long time but ready to find a way to contribute? Senior Leaders Greenville (SLG) is for you! A program of OLLI@Furman, SLG builds awareness of the essential role of seniors in the community and the critical issues they face, empowering participants to become active players seeking better lives for seniors in Greenville, the Upstate, and beyond. The class meets monthly for day-long sessions at locations around Greenville, September-May. Learn more on the website, and click here to apply for Class 6. OLLI HAPPENINGS
Join in our Lunch and Learn Tuesdays, where community speakers present a variety of interesting topics. Free and open to the public, 12:30-1:20 p.m., HC110. Bring your lunch and enjoy! On April 23, enjoy Pro Soccer to Arrive in Greenville: Who, What, Why and When with Joe Irwin, Chairman.

The Space Exploration SIG will meet on the second Friday of the month during the Spring term in HC 105 at 1 p.m. Come get updates on current activity in space exploration. Contact Bill Bradshaw with questions.

Music Lovers! The Furman Symphony Orchestra (FSO) and Oratorio Chorus will present a concert Friday, April 26, at 8 p.m. in McAlister Auditorium on campus. The spring Oratorio, “Fauré Requiem, and Bizet L’Arlésienne Suites” is a Sound Quality Concert Series event presented by the Furman Department of Music. Tickets are $10 for seniors. Hit the Links! Furman Women’s Basketball presents the 9th Annual Golf Tournament on May 3. Registration at 10a.m. with a shotgun start at 11a.m at the Furman University Golf Course. Cost is $125 and includes golf, driving range, meals, beverage cart, and awards. Sponsorships available. All proceeds go to Furman Women’s Basketball. Email Rob Carson for more information.
