The OLLI Office is open 8:30-5 Monday-Thursday, and 8:30-4 on Fridays.  Our number is 864-294-2998.

 

Spring 2016 Registration continues online and in the office.  Some classes and bonus events have filled, so consider having a backup. If you are on a waitlist, please know that we are working to see where we can add people to classes.  If your statement says “Registered Not Paid,” you are registered for your classes and it could be the result of a computer error. You will be contacted if we need a payment. Please keep in mind that each member may sign up for two Bonus Events.  If you are on a Bonus Event waitlist, you can add one more.

 

Course evaluation time is here!  You have the opportunity to provide us with feedback on each of your course experiences.  This online evaluation will take 5 minutes and provide great input to your instructors.   (Paper copies are available in the OLLI Office.)  Following are the links to complete your evaluations online:

Furman students will be on Spring Break next week, but OLLI members will keep right on learning.  Please note that due to Spring Break, the Dining Hall and the restaurants in the Student Center will be closed.

 

Interested in serving as a leader of OLLI?  Do you know someone who would be a great OLLI Council member?  As required by our bylaws, Greg Peters, VP of Membership/President Elect, chairs the Nominating Committee and has chosen the following committee members: John Bissell, Emily Fluhrer, Sherm Rounsville, and Geraldine Weyermann.  The Committee requests suggestions from the membership for openings on the 2017-18 Council:  VP/President Elect and 2 At-Large members. Email nominations to Greg Peters.

READ AND EXPLORE with OLLI

It’s not too late to join hundreds of OLLI members in enjoying One Foot in Eden by acclaimed NC author Ron Rash. Pick up a loaner copy available in the office.

 

Whether you have read One Foot in Eden or not, all OLLI members are invited to celebrate the conclusion of Read and Explore 2017 on Thursday, March 16, 1:30-3:30 p.m. at the Herring Center. Enjoy food, music and crafts of the region and learn a thing or two along the way. Reservations are helpful, please stop by or call the OLLI office to sign up or sign up online. Free!

Have old papers or documents that need shredding?  As part of National Consumer Protection Week the SC Dept. of Consumer Affairs will host a Shred Day right here at OLLI (in the parking lot adjacent to Timmons Arena) on Wednesday, March 8 from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m.  Limit 5 file boxes.

 

Come enjoy a recital by members of the International Folk Dance class on Thursday, March 9 at 12:30 p.m. in the Herring Center Manly Lobby. You may even have a chance to participate too!

 

Last chance to enter your cell phone photo for the wall in the Crabtree Room!  All OLLI members may enter 5″ X 7″ smartphone photos in 1 of 2 ways: 1) email your name and a digital copy to furmanolliphoto@gmail.com and we will print it for you, 2) bring a 5”x7” print with a 1/4″ border with your name on the back to the OLLI office. TRAVEL WITH OLLI

Interested in discovering the place called “Wonderland”? OLLI Instructor Dr. Matthew Hermes invites you to an informational meeting regarding a possible 2018 OLLI travel experience, Revealing Yellowstone, on Thursday, March 9 at 12:30 p.m., HC111. What’s GOING ON at Furman University?

The Furman Singers, of which our very own Laken Weaver is a part, will cap a five-city tour with two concerts Monday, March 13 and Tuesday, March 14 at 8 p.m. in Daniel Memorial Chapel. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased through the Furman Music Office (294-2086) or Eventbrite (small processing fee applies).  Note: Due to Furman Spring Break, the music office will be open during limited hours, please leave a message.

 

The Poinsett Wind Symphony in concert Friday, March 10 at 8 p.m. in McAlister Auditorium.  Music from Far and Away will be conducted by Les Hicken and Jay Bocook.  Free.

What’s GOING ON in and around Greenville?

Greenville’s Carolina Bronze and Charleston’s Palmetto Bronze Handbell Ensembles will perform internationally themed music at the Hughes Main Library in downtown Greenville on Sat., March 4, 3-4 p.m.

 

Music on Sunday at the Temple of Israel, March 5, 3 p.m.:  Jack Cohan & Friends will perform with a complimentary wine and cheese reception to follow. Visit their website for more info.

 

View a screening of “Rock in the Red Zone” Sun., March 5, 3 p.m. at Hughes Main Library. Presented as part of International Month, this film focuses on the celebration of music in a town near Israel’s Gaza Strip.

 

Help a Clemson Student!  The Clemson CVT Leadership program is looking for volunteers to participate in our state-of-the-art, noninvasive ultrasound scan lab on Wednesday, March 8.  They are located at the GHS Patewood campus and perform a variety of scans on the cardiovascular system.
