Happy New Year!

Welcome to the 2017 Winter Term–we look forward to seeing you!  There are still spots available in many of our courses; registration continues online and in the OLLI office.

Join us at the Back to OLLI Reception this Thursday, January 12, 3-4:30 p.m. in Manly Lobby.  Come enjoy a sweet treat and a cup of hot cider while visiting with OLLI friends old and new.  The New Member Orientation will be the same day, 2:30-3 p.m. in HC110.

* Don’t get caught in SNOW and ICE!  In the event of inclement weather, OLLI follows the university schedule. If Furman closes, OLLI classes will also be canceled and the office will close.  Call Furman’s weather line at 294-3766 or tune into local news for the latest updates.

What would happen if everyone at OLLI read the same book?  We are about to find out….stay tuned for a big announcement about Read and Explore with OLLI.  You’ll hear about the chosen book and programming planned around it.  Free copies of the book will be available at Back to OLLI on Thursday.

Update from Council President, Margaret Clark – Your OLLI Council continues the good work of coordinating the efforts of hundreds of volunteers, work that has made OLLI @Furman one of the gold standard OLLIs in the country. Recently we were visited by Rick Knopf, Director of OLLI @ Arizona State University. Rick asked the folks at the Osher Foundation which OLLIs he should visit as he gathered ideas to strengthen the program in Arizona; they included Furman in that short list of names! Well done everyone. As 2017 begins, the Council, with your support, is taking OLLI into new areas: more travel than ever before, an OLLI-wide Read & Explore, and let’s not forget, preparation for a blowout celebration in 2018, our 25th Anniversary. Please do consider volunteering with OLLI; just let the office staff know what you’re interested in and they will help you find a volunteer home at OLLI. Happy New Year y’all.
