FUEL: Free Healthy Eating Class and Assessments for Faculty, Staff, and Dependents

Are you interested in improving your eating habits to improve your health and well-being?

 

The Furman University Eating Lean (FUEL) Healthy Lifestyle Intervention is designed to assist faculty, staff, and dependents  enhance health and well-being.  There is no cost to participate.

 

The FUEL Intervention Includes:

  • Weekly classes discussing practical ways to improve eating and physical activity habits.  Classes will be held  in the PAC on Wednesdays from 11:30- 12:15 and repeated again from 1:30-2:15 p.m.  Participants may attend either class.
  • Simple dietary guidelines based on the FUEL plate:  one half vegetables and/ or fruits, one quarter whole grains or potatoes, and one quarter lean protein.  No calorie counting or restrictive portion sizes are required.
  • Analysis of blood cholesterol, triglycerides, blood glucose, hemoglobin A1c, C-reactive protein, and blood pressure
  • State-of-the-art body composition assessment via Dual Energy X-Ray Absorptiometry (DEXA)
  • Available medical consultations with Stoneview Internal Medicine at the Furman Employee On-site Clinic
  • Individualized exercise training and program design from Furman Health Science majors
