OLLI NOTES August 17, 2018
Celebrating 25 years of Learning in Retirement
The OLLI Office is open 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. on Fridays.

Welcome to our new staff! Drop by the office to meet them when you are here. Alise Brown is Office Manager and Jessica Justice is Program Coordinator for Communication. They both started in early July and have already made a huge difference here at OLLI!

Fall registration continues! Please refer to your confirmation e-mail and note the “class status” for the courses for which you registered (registered, registered not paid, waitlist). For anyone showing a registered not paid status, you are registered for the course and just need to pay for it.

If you are brand-new member, we will make a nametag for you, which you can pick up at the New Member Orientation OR at your first class. There is no need to make a special trip out to the office for your nametag. Returning OLLI members, please use the nametag you already have.

Stop by the office to pick up OLLI Brochures to share with friends, neighbors and at spots around town. YOU are our best advertisement.

A NOTE FROM NANCY
I was just as disappointed as many of you with the registration experience on Tuesday, when our system crashed due to heavy traffic. This was not a Furman IT issue; we use an external vendor for our registration software. We will be meeting with that vendor next week to find out what happened and how they plan to correct this problem.

Please know that we did our best to respond to every phone call and email that we received during that time. We had 6 staff members and at least 4 volunteers here, but were completely overwhelmed by the volume of phone calls. If you have not heard from us and still have questions about your registration, please call me at 864-294-2979 or send me an email. I’d like to give a special thanks to the volunteers who were here on Tuesday. Our office volunteers are THE BEST, but they went over and above to help us respond to the registration problems we experienced on Tuesday.

If you are on a waitlist, please know that we are working on those. Any time we can let more people into a class, we do. It all depends on space in the room, instructor preference, the number of drops for that class, and/or whether we can move to a different room. You will get a call from the office if a space opens up. We have already moved two classes to larger rooms, expanded a few more classes, and are waiting to hear back from other instructors with waiting lists. It is our goal to get as many people into the classes of their choice as we can.

I look forward to seeing you all soon as we begin another year of learning in retirement here at Furman!

Sincerely,
Nancy Kennedy
Director, OLLI@Furman
