October 21, 2016

The Winter brochure is available online and will be mailed on October 28. Registration for Winter Term will begin November 15 for course package holders and November 17 for single courses. It promises to be a great Winter Term. Thank you to our incredible committee members and instructors for building this schedule!

Have you been waiting to hear the beautiful piano in the Herring Center Lobby?  Please join us for a dedication of the grand piano graciously given to the Herring Center by Sarah and Gordon Herring on Thursday, October 27, 4 p.m.  Furman students and faculty will provide music and we will enjoy a demonstration of the instrument’s electronic capabilities.  A celebratory reception will follow.  Reservations are helpful as we plan the reception.  Please call or stop by the office to let us know you’ll be there.

Did you enjoy last year’s Fall for OLLI and the Antique Fest the year before?  Well, you won’t want to miss this year’s BIG Fall event Cruisin’ with OLLI.  Revisit old time rock and roll, drive-ins, and hot wheels on Friday, October 28, 2-5 p.m. at the Herring Center. Jump back in time and share the fun with other OLLI members rockin’ to the tunes of American Bandstand, check out the wheels of the Classic Car SIG members and enjoy some favorite foods of the times. No cost to attend; reservations are strongly encouraged. To guarantee your food basket, pre-purchase a food ticket in the OLLI office for $10 (mini-hamburgers or hotdog, fries and your choice of a coke float or root beer float) by Tuesday!

All OLLI Members are invited to attend the “In Conversation With…” class on Thursday, October 27 in Daniel Recital Hall to hear Sarah and Gordon Herring share their experiences and photos from their trip to North Korea.

Our instructors and guests are the heart of what we do here, and we hear so often how much you enjoy your classes.  Their lectures often inspire questions, which is great and adds to the richness of the experience.  However, please remember that questions should be general and not specific to a single OLLI member’s experience.  Remember, if the question starts with I or My, it might be a story rather than a question.
