Thank you to all of the instructors who taught interesting classes, volunteers who kept things running smoothly, and all who took a course or attended a bonus event. Registration begins at 8 a.m. Nov. 17 for course package holders and 8 a.m. Nov. 19 for single courses. PLEASE CHECK YOUR USER NAME AND PASSWORD now so that registration will be smooth. Please keep in mind that each member may sign up for two Bonus Events. If you are on a waitlist, you can add one more.

 

Reminder to all interested in offering a Spring16 class, the course proposal form deadline is December 4.

 

Sign up for the OLLI Thanksgiving Potluck on Thur., Nov. 26! Our location this year is a very nice and warm setting in the social hall of Trinity Presbyterian Church, just minutes away from Furman.  Each attendee is asked to contribute $5. Directions will be furnished. We will gather at noon. Go to Thanksgiving Pot Luck Sign Up or contact Heidi Wright to sign up. Deadline for sign up is Thurs., Nov. 19 at 4 p.m.

OLLI HAPPENINGS

The OLLI Paladin Pass is your ticket to discounts and privileges on campus. If you enjoy $5 meals at the dining hall, use the library, or play a few rounds at Furman’s golf course, you’ll need one beginning in January. It also entitles you to discounts at the Fitness Center, the bookstore and restaurants in the student center, and more. We will not make these automatically for all members—sign up in the office or email Carson Ruffrage.

 

Join us for one of our favorite traditions – OLLI Breakfast in the Dining Hall on Saturday, Dec. 5, 9-11 a.m.! Only $5 with your OLLI nametag.

 

Lewis and Clark Movie – Join the Lewis and Clark class at 10:45 on Wed., Nov. 18 to view an alternate reality to the journey of the Corps of Discovery. We will view Hollywood’s version of the trip. All are welcome.

The final play in the 2015 RSC series is William Shakespeare’s Henry V. See it Fri., Nov. 20 at 4 p.m. and Sat., Nov. 21 at 7 p.m. in the Burgiss Theatre in Trone Student Center. Buy your tickets for only $16 in the OLLI office.

 

Interested in Jamming with your Ukulele, Guitar, or whatever?  Join the OLLI Ukulele SIG in HC110 on Friday, Nov. 13, 1:30 p.m., Bring your singing voice, instrument and music you know.

 

Join the Photography SIG on Saturday, November 14 for an early sunrise outing to Lake Oolenoy/Table Rock Park to shoot what could be a classic Fall Sunrise over the lake. Plan on meeting at the Herring Center at 5 a.m. to carpool to the park and bringing $5 to contribute to gas. Contact Jeff Sarvis for more details!

 

The Cooking Committee will meet Tuesday, Nov. 17 at 11:30 a.m., HC103.  If you would like help plan cooking courses for OLLI, please join us! Bring a bag lunch if you would like since we are meeting during the lunch hour.

 

Out and About Singles will be travelling to Columbia on Wed., Nov. 18 to view the Georgia O’Keefe exhibit at the Columbia Museum. Contact Sue Miller for details and to reserve.

 

The Aging in Community SIG will meet Thurs., Nov. 19, 12:15-1:15 p.m. in HC102, for an open forum on the needs and dreams of community and a presentation on the Village Model. Contact Judith Ziemer.

 

Believe it or not, it’s almost time to deck the halls! Help decorate the OLLI Tree on Tuesday, Nov. 24, at 10 a.m. Bring a treat to share and enjoy music to get into the spirit as you get Manly Lobby ready for the holidays.

Our annual Christmas Caroling will be on Thurs, Dec. 3 at Heartland Healthcare Center of Greenville East. We’ll meet at OLLI for rehearsal at 1 p.m., carpool to Heartland and perform 3:15-4:15 p.m. This has been an enjoyable event for several years, and we welcome former and new singers. SAVE THE DATE! Join OLLI friends, wear purple and cheer on the Furman Men’s Basketball Team on OLLI Night! Furman vs. Liberty on Tuesday, December 8 at 7 p.m. at Timmons Arena.   Tickets are just $10 in the OLLI office.

 

Cocoa and Carols with the Chorale! Members of the Greenville Chorale will join us in Manly Lobby.  Enjoy a Christmas sing-a-long, warm drinks, yummy desserts and social time with OLLI friends on Mon., Dec. 14 at 7 p.m.  Free!  Reservations are helpful.  Call the office to let us know you’ll be there.

 

What’s GOING ON at Furman University?

The Furman Theatre presents God of Carnage November 12-14 and 18-21 at 8 p.m. and November 15 at 3 p.m. OLLI member tickets are $10 and can be purchased at the Playhouse ticket office.

 

“Christmas with the Chorale” – Fri., Dec. 11, 7:30 pm, McAlister Auditorium.  Bing Vick leads the Greenville Chorale in an exciting program of holiday favorites. Discounted tickets in the office for just $24.

 

Furman University president Elizabeth Davis will speak on “What Really Matters?”, Tuesday, Nov. 17 at 7 p.m. in Furman’s Daniel Chapel. FREE!

 

What’s GOING ON in and around Greenville?

The Greenville County Recreation Department invites you to join them for the Turkey Trot on November 19 from 11 a.m.- 1 p.m. beginning at Furman’s Cherrydale Mansion. Take you choice between a 1 or 3 mile walk around Furman’s campus while you have fun, stay healthy and spend time with friends. Great snacks and prizes provided!

 

Returned Peace Corps Volunteers:  All RPCVs are invited to coffee and conversation on Mon., Nov. 23 at Starbucks on South Main, Greenville, between 4 and 6:30 pm.  Connect with members of the area Peace Corps community.
