International Education Week 2021

The flags are up in the library!  It must be International Education Week!  As we start this year’s celebration, it is important to acknowledge that we are still in the midst of a global pandemic.  Even as we ache for a “return to normal,” we remember that in much of the world and in many of our own states and counties, COVID-19 still rages.  We remember the lives lost to COVID-19, we recognize the heroic efforts of so many, and we condemn the spread of misinformation and disinformation that has contributed to the worsening of the pandemic.  As we ease back into international travel, let us travel with a greater appreciation for each other and for our planet.

IEW is a celebration of the benefits of international education and exchange worldwide!!  We celebrate our international students, faculty, and staff as well as our domestic students who are choosing to expand their horizons by studying abroad.  Nationally observed in the U.S., International Education Week is promoted by the Department of State and the Department of Education.  The Furman University Libraries are proud to partner with the Rinker Center and the Center for Inclusive Communities as we celebrate International Education Week 2021.

This week in the library:

  • Stop by the “Stick a Pin in It” map display.  We invite our international students, faculty, and staff to stick a flag pin on their hometown and our domestic students, faculty, and staff to stick a ball pin on a destination they most want to visit. Happy pinning!
  • Check out a book or pick a recipe from the “Eat Globally, Cook Locally” cookbook display. Jenny’s picks will have your mouth watering with culinary delights from around the globe.
  • Stop by the Study Away MayX 2022 corner as we highlight the upcoming programs.  While the application deadline has passed for 2022, we invite you to reflect on where you might like to go in the future.  What do you want to study, where, and why?  Take a minute to share your ideas with us.
  • Don’t forget the many library resources with a global focus including databases with international publications written in a variety of languages.  Be sure to check out these library guides:

                Asian Studies

                Latin American Studies
