International Education Week

2016 International Education Week Celebration!
NOVEMBER 14-18, 2016
International Education Week, a nationally observed celebration presented by the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education, aims to highlight the benefits of international education and exchange worldwide. Universities, colleges, K-12 schools, non-profit organizations, and local governments are encouraged to participate by hosting events that display the international presence at their institution. Furman University is proud to participate in International Education Week and will host several events throughout the week. Faculty, staff, students, and community members are encouraged to participate!

MONDAY-FRIDAY
International Food Station
Lunch hours, Daniel Dining Hall
Each day of the week the Dining Hall is partnering with a Furman student to highlight an international dish. The Bon Appetit chefs will work alongside our students to make the dish as authentic as possible!

Library Displays
James B. Duke Library
The library will have a map display with pins for students to pin their hometown. In addition, flags will be displayed that represent all of our international student countries and our study away program countries.

SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 12
Furman World Cup Soccer Tournament
11 a.m.-2 p.m., Eugene Soccer Stadium
Teams of 7-11 each representing a different country will compete for the honor of becoming the Furman World Cup Champion. Members of the winning team will each get a trophy and the team will receive a $200 gift card to the restaurant of their choice to celebrate!

SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 13
Diwali Celebration, CLP
7 a.m.-9 p.m., Watkins Room, Trone Center
Learn about the festival of Diwali while enjoying Indian food and participating in other traditions of the festival.

MONDAY, NOVEMBER 14
Rangoli
11 a.m.-4 p.m., Library Patio
Rangoli colors are used to create patterns during the celebration of Diwali. Participants can come and add color to the designs and create a beautiful pattern in front of the library steps.

TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 15
FUISA International Fashion Show, CLP
7:30 p.m., Watkins Room, Trone Center
This annual event showcases different traditional clothing around the world.

WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 16
The Asia Project, CLP
7:30 p.m. Burgiss Theater, Trone Center
A spoken word performance that focuses on difficulties with racial prejudice, religion, and the power of language.

DJ Trivia International Theme
8 – 10 p.m., The Paddock, Trone Center
Teams of no more than 4 will compete answering International themed questions with the chance to win prizes.

THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 17
ACIREMA: International Student Simulation
3:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m., Thomas Room, Trone Center
All faculty and staff are invited to participate in a simulation to step into the shoes of an international student at Furman. Registration required by 11/14.
