What is the StudioLab?

The StudioLab is a writing and multimedia center located on the bottom floor of the James B. Duke Library.  As part of the Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL), the StudioLab assists students, faculty, and staff with writing and multimedia projects.

The StudioLab is staffed by student consultants who can help with various academic projects.  You can bring your writing assignments to the StudioLab and get peer feedback and assistance.  They offer help with any stage of the writing process, from initial brainstorming, to outlining, to the final draft.  It’s always helpful to have a second person read your work and make sure your writing effectively communicates your brilliant ideas!

The StudioLab also takes the same peer-assisted approach to helping with multimedia projects.  They offer access to cutting edge technology and software, as well as insight in creating effective presentations and exciting video projects.

The only caveat:  the StudioLab Consultants will not do your work for you.  They are there to offer support, advice, and guidance, but the paper you write is still your paper, and the video you create is still your video.  You can’t drop off a paper for someone to read and come back later, and you can’t drop off a video project for someone to edit for you.  Creativity is hard work, but the StudioLab is here to help!

Their hours are:

  • Monday – Thursday:  9 am – 10 pm
  • Friday:  9 am – 2 pm
  • Saturday:  Closed
  • Sunday:  7 pm -10 pm (subject to change)

While appointments are appreciated, walk-ins are welcome too.  You can make an appointment by visiting the StudioLab’s website or calling 294-2323.  It’s also a good idea to check their online calendar.  For instance, the StudioLab will have an altered schedule during Thanksgiving Break.
