Commemorating 9/11

In commemoration of the tenth anniversary of September 11th, Furman University is hosting a number of interfaith events designed to promote religious tolerance. The “From the Ground Up” project will facilitate interfaith conversation through a remembrance service on September 11th along with a month-long lecture series.

Another component of “From the Ground Up” is faithSERVE, a service project sponsored by the Office of the Chaplain and the Heller Service Corps.

Students participating in faithSERVE will volunteer with the Greenville Area Interfaith Hospitality Network (GAIHN) to serve meals and spend time with families in transitional homelessness.

The faithSERVE initiative was created in response to President Obama’s Interfaith and Community Service Campus Challenge.

A display in the Government Documents Collection highlights the faithSERVE initiative. Several government documents on interfaith dialogue, homelessness, and faith-based partnerships are incorporated into the display.
