What Halloween taught me

Okay, I know everyone is probably getting ready for Thanksgiving since it’s the next big Holiday, but I just felt the need to write this post since every year Halloween teaches me so much about how to properly celebrate it. So here you are, consider the following pieces of advice for next year!

1.Your costume should be inspirational, funny, and (if you wish so) also sexy.

But always remember the correct order is FIRST INSPIRATION, THEN FUNNY, and last is sexy (if you have time for that). For this year, I picked a costume that is both funny and inspirational, but also super hot. Yes, you guessed it, I was pizza. And I dare to say I was by far the most attractive person in the room (whatever room that may be) because no all of us are attracted to nurses and “error 404: costume not found”, but I can safely say everyone is attracted to pizza.

2. Don’t limit yourself to just one costume!

Let’s be real here. Sometimes you just have way too many good ideas for Halloween costumes. Why not make them all happen? Also, who celebrates Halloween just on October 31st? NOBODY. So, mix it up and have multiple costumes ready. The easiest costume I have come up with is Danny Zuko (John Travolta) from Grease. I mean if you don’t have sunglasses, a pair of jeans and a white tshirt, you probably need to reevaluate your life.

3. Don’t invest too much on make up.

Especially if you’re going to a party, chances are you will get ridiculously sweaty. I mean if you want to look scary, go for it. I dread melted make up.

4. Themed parties for Halloween: go to them!

I think it’s a great way to keep your creativity on its toes! This is a picture of me in a Gal-o-ween party where we all dressed up as inspirational women. I dressed up as Katniss Everdeen, and I learned how to do her beautiful braid! (If you can’t tell, my friend is Hermione Granger, you muggles!)

5. Don’t eat all the candy at once (or within a week)

The candy people give you during Halloween, is usually not expiring until like March of next year. Take your time eating it. I like giving my candy to others, since I’m more of a fan of the savory snacks. I’m currently taking a class called “Wellness concepts” and you would be shocked if you knew how much extra, unnecessary sugar America consumes daily, and how much harm it can do to your body. Let your self have 1 to 2 treats daily, especially if you drink soda. The office I work in on campus gave me a huge bucket of candy and I just distributed them among my friends since I knew I would not eat them. I kept some kit kats though because they are so yummy!

6. Find a fun bunch and let some steam out!

This is a festive season and you should find some peeps to keep you company, and help you have a fun time on Halloween! On Friday Oct 30th, I went to the Improv show on campus with my friend Jocelyn, and then to a fraternity party with my chemistry friends, and on Halloween, Fall fest kept us all entertained during the day, and another fraternity party at night completed our Halloween weekend!

I had two big tests last week and I got through both of them, and Halloween weekend was the best way to relax after a very strenuous week. Also, I’ve started realizing that next year I’ll be a senior and I’m freaking out because I don’t want to leave Furman yet and what am I going to do with my life?! AAAAAAHHHH.
