I am very pleased to announce that I will be studying abroad next semester in Madrid, Spain! I received the news about a week ago and I cannot be more thrilled to have the opportunity to experience such a vibrant culture. I have been studying Spanish since I was four years old and honestly, I don’t think there’s much left to learn. I hope that by truly immersing myself in the Spanish culture that I will finally become fluent!
Although I’m super pumped to be spending the semester abroad, I will miss a few things about Furman (and the U.S.) that I unfortunately can’t take with me:
- How beautiful our campus is when all the leaves change
- Football season – Our team may not be the best around, but tailgating is always fun!
- RLC – These past two semesters I’ve really connected with the organization and all of the incredible people in it and I’m very sad that I’ll be missing our fall events.
- Cookout – I may be mistaken, but I’m pretty sure there isn’t a Cookout in Spain. I’m sure I’ll eat tons of fantastic food, but I don’t think anything can beat a creamy M&M milkshake.
- Thanksgiving – I completely forgot that Thanksgiving is an American holiday and no other country celebrates it. I’ll certainly miss my mom’s homemade rolls and sweet potato and apple casserole.
- My friends – I’m taking a few good friends with me to Spain, but I’ll miss the ones who will be in Greenville!
- My family – They’re crazy and dysfunctional, but I love them and it’ll be a long semester across the pond without them.
