Semester Abroad!

I am very pleased to announce that I will be studying abroad next semester in Madrid, Spain! I received the news about a week ago and I cannot be more thrilled to have the opportunity to experience such a vibrant culture. I have been studying Spanish since I was four years old and honestly, I don’t think there’s much left to learn. I hope that by truly immersing myself in the Spanish culture that I will finally become fluent!

Although I’m super pumped to be spending the semester abroad, I will miss a few things about Furman (and the U.S.) that I unfortunately can’t take with me:

  1. How beautiful our campus is when all the leaves change
  2. Football season – Our team may not be the best around, but tailgating is always fun!
  3. RLC – These past two semesters I’ve really connected with the organization and all of the incredible people in it and I’m very sad that I’ll be missing our fall events.
  4. Cookout – I may be mistaken, but I’m pretty sure there isn’t a Cookout in Spain. I’m sure I’ll eat tons of fantastic food, but I don’t think anything can beat a creamy M&M milkshake.
  5. Thanksgiving – I completely forgot that Thanksgiving is an American holiday and no other country celebrates it. I’ll certainly miss my mom’s homemade rolls and sweet potato and apple casserole.
  6. My friends – I’m taking a few good friends with me to Spain, but I’ll miss the ones who will be in Greenville!
  7. My family – They’re crazy and dysfunctional, but I love them and it’ll be a long semester across the pond without them.
