Kelly Frazier has been a Lecturer and Wellness Coordinator in the Department of Health Sciences at Furman University for twelve years. She earned her Masters degree in Health and Exercise Science from Furman University in 2002 and was certified as a Health and Fitness Specialist through the American College of Sports Medicine in 2000. She instructs undergraduate courses HSC 101 Wellness Concepts, HSC 315 Fundamentals of Nutrition, and HSC 503/505 FIT Rx Individualized Internship in Exercise Prescription.
Since 2011, Frazier has pioneered the Furman University Eating Lean (FUEL) low-energy density, plate-based dietary intervention to improve nutrient intake, body composition, and health outcomes associated with chronic disease. This program offers a weekly healthy eating class and assessments of blood work and body composition via a DEXA x-ray. FUEL is offered for Furman faculty, staff, and dependents at no cost.
Since 2013, Frazier has advised the Furman Culinary club and regularly hosts healthy cooking workshops for Furman students. These popular workshops allow students the opportunity to prepare and taste healthful foods. Workshop themes have included vegetables and fruits, whole grains, lean proteins, and healthy holiday fare. Frazier has partnered with the Furman Library to offer students healthy refreshments and mini-yoga sessions in the library during Study Day and final exams.
Since 2000, Frazier has taught a variety of group exercise classes for the Furman Fitness Center including Yoga, Yoga for athletes, Body Fit weight training, Cycling, and X Fit cross training.
Frazier frequently lectures for schools, churches, corporations, and other organizations throughout the Greenville community.
She lives in Greenville with her husband and two children and is passionate about promoting wellness throughout the Furman community and beyond.
