All DIN Episode 21

In Episode 21, Coach Richey and Dan begin the podcast by touching base on preseason workouts that started yesterday. Preseason consists of team workouts, individual workouts, weight lifting, and conditioning. The focus of this time of the year is to get everyone geared up to perform at a high level for when practice starts. Coach Richey then transitions into his method of structuring team workouts and how they are designed for mundane repetition, stating that the teaching behind it is very important. The next topic of discussion is the health status of 2 of our players. During the summer break in August, Andrew Brown and Jalen Slawson both suffered injuries while working on their games. Freshman forward Jalen Slawson was playing pick-up and while attempting to block a shot he was kneed in the gut and experienced some internal bleeding. Senior forward Andrew Brown was doing a skill workout and after going up for a layup he came down and heard a pop in his foot. He was diagnosed with a jones fracture and is looking to return mid-October. The first big announcement is the VISA acceptance of Strength and Conditioning coach Matt Aldred. Coach explains how he took an educated and calculated risk with Matt, but knows that what he brings to the table is extremely valuable. The second big announcement is the schedule release of the upcoming basketball season and the arrival of the video boards! To wrap up, Coach gives his book suggestion that is based on leadership and teamwork. Help the Helper: Building a Culture of Extreme Teamwork is written by John Eliot and Kevin Pritchard. This book consists of different sets of data that focuses on the approach quality rather than outcome quantity, different scenarios that prove that depending on one sole person to get everything done is what causes companies and teams to fail, and lastly how successful organizations/teams have people that focus on solving problems rather than their job description or duties. We hope you enjoy this episode!
