Peter Wexler, the famous New York theatre designer, producer, painter, sculptor, and photographer, is visiting Furman University Library this week as part of a collaboration with the Digicenter to develop the Peter Wexler Digital Museum. This ambitious large-scale project will involve the digitization of Mr. Wexler’s professional art and design work which is currently on-loan from the artist’s studio in New York.
The collection spans over 50 years and includes materials related to opera, theatre, and concerts developed for clients such as the New York Philharmonic, the Metropolitan Opera, and the Boston Pops. Among the materials to be digitized are three-dimensional scale models of sets, costume design sketches, paint elevations, sculptures, photographs, 35mm slides, drawings, paintings, posters, documents, and other ancillary materials. The Digicenter will convert these materials into digital format using high-quality digital cameras and flatbed scanners. The digital copies will then be described using robust metadata and made available online through a dynamic and interactive website.
Portions of the collection will be online starting later this year, and will be accessible and searchable by the Furman community and the general public for research, instruction, and learning.
Learn more about Peter Wexler here, and stay tuned to the Digicenter News page as we provide ongoing updates related to this exciting project.
By any reason Peter Wexler’s contribute to the Arts shouldn’t be hidden in memory’s drawers.
