Furman Library News

From the Director

Last week, the Furman University Libraries received a very special delivery from our friends at the Furman Child Development Center. Mrs. Meredith Burton’s Kindergarten class has been busy working on an “Acts of Kindness” project, and as part of their good deeds, our “Little Furman” neighbors created a series of drawings for different groups across what they call “Big Furman.” We were delighted (and honored!) that the Duke library was one of the stops on their campus kindness tour.

Thair artwork made my day! It was a bright reminder that the library is so much more than a study space or a home for books—it is a place where connections, creativity, and community meet in the most unexpected ways.

We’ve displayed the students’ creations in the Duke Library entryway so the entire Furman community can enjoy them. If you stop by, you will notice a QR code that lets you upload a selfie with your favorite drawing. Please add yours to the collection—let’s spread the joy these young artists started.

And while we are on the subject of things small and delightful: have you visited our juvenile book collection on the lower level lately? It is one of Duke Library’s hidden gems. We’ve curated a wonderful selection of classic and contemporary children’s literature, plus a great range of popular young adult novels. Whether you’re picking something out for your own “Little Furman” reader or simply feeling nostalgic for a childhood favorite, we would love for you to stop in and explore. Here’s to kindness, creativity, and the many ways our campus family continues to surprise us!
