On Thursday, October 20th, at 7 pm The Friends of the Furman University Libraries, the Environmental Action Group, and the Tri Beta Biological Honor Society are co-hosting a guest speaker. The title of the CLP is, “Reality Bites: Cultural Challenges in Conservation.” This event focuses on current threats to the world’s endangered crocodilians and turtles and the influence of different cultures on associated conservation efforts. The speaker, Dr. Thomas Rainwater, a Furman graduate, has spent over 20 years conducting field research on the biology, ecotoxicology, and conservation on crocodiles and turtles in a diversity of habitats and localities, including Belize, Costa Rica, India, South Africa, and the U.S. Dr. Rainwater will highlight some of these projects to illustrate the plight of certain species and provide a personal perspective on how culture can both hinder and aid in wildlife conservation.
We hope you will join us at 7:00 pm in the Watkins Room of the Trone Student Center for this special event.
