Update Jan. 25, 2025. 12pm. Due to the winter storm the University will be closed from Saturday, Jan. 24th, through Tuesday, Jan. 27th. During this time, all classes and on-campus events are cancelled by the University. All three libraries will be closed Jan. 24th – Jan 26th.
According to the latest National Weather Service forecast, 0.5–0.75 inches of ice accumulation is expected, along with a wintry mix of rain, snow, and sleet—conditions that may lead to dangerous travel and power outages across the Upstate.
What this means for library access
While our buildings are closed, you can still use many library services online:
- Databases, ebooks, and ejournals: Available 24/7 through the Libraries website
- Library catalog: Search and plan ahead for materials you’d like to use once we reopen
- Research help: Use our research guides and online resources to keep projects moving from home
- If you need research assistance while the library is closed, we will be monitoring libraryreference@furman.edu and Chat on Monday, Jan. 26, from 9:00am to noon.
Due dates and holds
If you have materials checked out or holds waiting for pickup, please don’t worry—we’ll communicate any library-specific updates (including any due date adjustments or pickup changes) once we know the University’s reopening plans.
Looking ahead
The University’s Emergency Response Team will share an additional update about plans for Wednesday, Jan. 28, as soon as possible. We’ll share library-specific updates when they’re available.
For official University updates, visit Furman’s news page and follow Furman’s social media channels (Facebook, Instagram, and X). Students, faculty, and staff will also receive text/email alerts in emergency situations.
Please stay safe, avoid unnecessary travel, and take care during the storm.
