Temporary Closure of Duke Library: January 6–9

Happy New Year from the Furman University Library! As we start the spring semester, Duke Library is making an important upgrade to improve your comfort while studying.

Beginning Tuesday, January 6, Facilities will begin installing a new HVAC system in Duke Library. During this work, the building’s heat will be turned off for several days. Because the building will be too cold for safe use, Duke Library will be closed to students and the public from Tuesday through Friday, January 6–9.

When Will Duke Reopen?

The new HVAC system is expected to be up and running by Friday, and Duke Library will reopen as scheduled on Saturday and Sunday, January 10-11, from 1–5 p.m.

Where Can I Study?

While Duke Library is closed, students are encouraged to use:

• Other campus study spaces
• Departmental buildings
• Residence hall study areas

Library staff will continue working remotely during this time and will be available to help with research questions and online resources.

We know this closure comes at an inconvenient time, and we appreciate your flexibility. The good news is that this short disruption will result in a new HVAC system that will make Duke Library more comfortable for studying all year long.

We look forward to welcoming you back this weekend, warmer and better than ever!
