Introducing Micah Wingard

Among the most exciting changes coming to James B Duke Library this summer is the addition of our new departmental coordinator, Micah Wingard. Micah has a Bachelor’s in English from USC and a Master’s of Communication from Liberty University. She commented saying “My professional background is an equal blend of librarianship, communication, and higher education. I love that this role perfectly encompasses these skills and allows me to truly meld together my degrees in English and Communications.”

When not at work, she spends her time reading, going for daily walks, playing Dungeons & Dragons or thrifting. Her favorite book that she read recently was Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir. Micah said about the book, “It was a branch outside of what I usually read, but I was engrossed.” Her go-to genre of book is nonfiction. “People tend to write off nonfiction, but there are so many great books in the genre! Many of them even read like fiction sometimes. If someone is struggling to get into this realm, always recommend finding an audiobook with a good narrator.”

On the lighter side, Micah enjoys everything about summer. She said, “Prufrock measures his life with coffee spoons, but I measure mine in summers. I love everything about the season – the warmth, the constant hum of the cicadas, the long days where the sun lingers just a little longer. I could go on and on.”

We are so excited to welcome Micah into the Furman family. Stop by the administrative suite and say hello!
