Introducing Daniel Fernandez

We’re excited to welcome Daniel Fernandez, one of our newest employees at Furman University Libraries! Daniel brings a passion for helping students and a wealth of experience from his background in education.

When asked what he enjoys most about his new role, Daniel shared, “The people I work with are incredibly helpful and personable. Helping students gives me a sense of purpose, and learning about the library itself has been the highlight thus far.” You’ll often find him at the Research Assistance desk, where he helps visitors find resources, answer citation questions, and navigate library services.

Daniel’s path to librarianship is rooted in his love for learning and helping others. “I’ve always loved reading and figured I could get paid to pursue one of my passions,” he said. As a former educator, he finds that many of the same skills apply in his new role. “Working at Furman requires many of the same skills and feels like a natural fit. I get to help students find what they’re looking for and introduce a few strategies to make the process easier.”

For students looking to improve their study habits, Daniel recommends setting goals and breaking up study sessions into manageable pieces. “Creating a study schedule keeps me from getting distracted and makes me feel like I accomplished something when I stick to it,” he advised.

An avid reader, Daniel recently enjoyed The Sound of Waves by Yukio Mishima, a love story set in a small Japanese fishing village. He praised its “stellar writing, rich characterization, and the sentimental pull of adolescent crushes.”

Outside of work, Daniel enjoys reading, writing, playing video games, and listening to hip-hop music. When he has a few days off, you might find him camping and enjoying nature.

Here’s something you might not know about him: “I worked for AmeriCorps in Alaska and spent six months living out of a tent as part of a service crew,” he shared.

We’re thrilled to have Daniel on our team and encourage you to say hello the next time you visit the Research Assistance desk!
