The air is turning chilly, the leaves are crackling along the mall, and the fog lies low over Furman’s lake. It’s the perfect weather to snuggle under a fleece blanket, and lose yourself in a good book and a hot beverage. This November, Furman’s library folks are reading a rich and varied list of fiction and non-fiction books. Feel free to browse the “What We’re Reading” list, and find inspiration for your next read. Many of these titles are also available for check-out at the Furman library. If not, they can be easily requested through InterLibrary Loan.
For me (Christy Allen), I’ve spent my November reading two influential Sherlock Holmes novels: The Seven-Per-Cent Solution by Nicholas Meyer (celebrating its 50th anniversary ) and The Beekeepers Apprentice by Laurie R. King (celebrating its 25th anniversary). Both titles feature a very different perspective on the fictional detective. In both novels, he faces a variety of personal challenges, takes daring risks, and grows in very unexpected ways. I highly recommend them both.
