Introducing Samantha!

We are pleased to welcome Samantha Bailey as the new Resource Management Assistant at Furman University Libraries.

Samantha’s journey into librarianship began in a part-time role. “I started as a part-time library page,” she explains, “and found during my time in that role and as a library assistant that I loved the work.” Her love for reading was always present, but it wasn’t until she took on these roles that she considered the library as a career. After trying a different career path, she found herself missing library work and decided to return to it.

Since starting her role at Furman, Samantha has found support in her new team. “My coworkers are amazing and helping me so much to learn my new responsibilities and about Furman and Duke Library,” she says, appreciating the collaborative environment as she gets settled into her responsibilities.

For students considering a career in librarianship, Samantha offers practical advice: “You can start off as a volunteer or in a part-time position, through which you can learn a lot about library work.” She also points out the differences between public and university libraries, highlighting the variety within the field.

Outside of work, Samantha enjoys knitting, crocheting, and spending time at the NC Arboretum. A reader at heart, her favorite book is Howl’s Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones. When she’s not reading, she enjoys a good London Fog tea—though most mornings, she opts for a quicker version with Earl Grey and sweet cream coffee creamer.

We are excited to have Samantha as part of our team and look forward to the contributions she will bring to Furman University Libraries!
