We are excited to introduce Kristina Switzer, our new Weekend Circulation Supervisor at Furman University Libraries. Kristina brings a passion for books, learning, and helping others, which makes her a great addition to our team.
In her new role, Kristina enjoys the variety of tasks and the opportunity to learn new things every day. “The range of involvement is what I enjoy most about my role,” she shares. “Getting to supervise the libraries on campus while maintaining communication with students and ensuring that things are running smoothly really fulfills a sense of responsibility and dedication that I was looking for.” Kristina also loves the daily opportunities to assist students and learn the ins and outs of the library.
When it comes to favorite spots in the library, Kristina has a clear winner. “My favorite spot in the library is the Special Collections on the second floor! I may be a little biased being a medieval art history nerd, but seeing the medieval manuscripts collection advertised as soon as I walked into my new position, it felt like fate!” She describes it as a unique offering, almost like having a mini museum within the library.
Kristina’s love for libraries and books has been a driving force in her career path. “I adore books and learning, and those who appreciate them,” she says. “I missed the wealth of information I had access to while in college, and I wanted to be part of a team that encourages people to learn and grow.” She enjoys being able to assist students on their journey, helping them navigate new subjects and find the resources they need to succeed.
Outside of work, Kristina has a variety of hobbies that keep her busy, including drawing, painting, hiking, playing video games, and, of course, reading. She’s currently into the works of Colin Dickey, particularly recommending his book Under the Eye of Power for those interested in the history of conspiracy theories. To stay focused, she suggests taking breaks while studying, even if it’s just to stretch your legs or pet a dog. And if you’re looking for the perfect study soundtrack, Kristina highly recommends the Skyrim soundtrack.
When it comes to favorite beverages, Kristina has a soft spot for a cherry limeade from Sonic, especially when it’s made with their signature pebble ice. In the colder months, you’re more likely to find her sipping a hot chai tea latte. She also shares her home with Charlie, an 11-year-old cat who enjoys sunbathing on the patio and chatting with the local wildlife.
We’re thrilled to have Kristina on board and look forward to seeing her grow in her new role at the Furman University Libraries!
