Welcome Frances Choe: Our New Daytime Circulation Supervisor

We’re excited to introduce Frances Choe, who recently joined our team as the Daytime Circulation Supervisor in the Access and Outreach Services department. Frances brings a passion for working with students and a commitment to ensuring that our library is a welcoming and resource-rich environment for all.

What Frances Does at the Library

Frances gets to collaborate with our fantastic Student Assistants and her colleagues in Access Services to ensure the smooth circulation of library materials. But her role goes beyond that—she’s here to help patrons access the wealth of information, technology resources, and services that our library and community offer.

Frances is particularly enjoying the opportunity to work closely with students every day. She finds it a privilege to help them develop professional skills while they pursue their academic passions and interests, all while supporting them during their formative years.

Getting to Know Frances

Frances is a proud pet owner of an 11-year-old Boykin Spaniel, who, according to her, is a stubborn cutie pie. When it comes to beverages, she starts her day with coffee and loves to sip on key lime La Croix.

Frances is an avid reader and when asked about the best book she’s read recently she said, “Oh no, don’t make me choose! I’m going to sidestep this question shamelessly by sharing what I’m reading and really excited about in my TBR pile right now. I’ve usually got one of the Best American anthologies on rotation, and I’m excited to make my way through Kelly Link’s Book of Love and Ursula Le Guin’s Words Are My Matter.” And when it comes to comfort food, Frances is all about tteok-bokki—especially the spicier, the better!

Library Favorites and Advice for Aspiring Librarians

Frances has a special spot in the library—the reading chairs by the large windows overlooking the Rose Garden. It’s her go-to place for a peaceful reading session.

For those considering a career in librarianship, Frances offers some valuable advice: “Try to stay open to new experiences and ways of thinking, and don’t be afraid of following your obsessions. And wear comfortable shoes! There’s a bit of a common misconception that library staff sit and read all day.”

Beyond the Books

Music enthusiasts might relate to Frances’ memorable concert experience—seeing Weezer with Sleigh Bells and The Pixies. As for her favorite season, Frances is all about summer, embracing the longer daylight hours and the perfect weather for reading by the pool.

Currently, Frances is binge-watching The Sympathizer on HBO Max. And when asked who she would like to have breakfast with, Frances humorously admits that the idea of dining with a famous person sounds intimidating. She would rather tag along with a group of conversationalists, leaving the talking to them while she enjoys the moment.

We’re thrilled to have Frances on our team, and we’re looking forward to the energy and expertise she brings to our library community. Be sure to stop by and say hello the next time you visit!
