Meet Alicia: Our New Financial Records and Acquisitions Assistant

Alicia smiling and standing in front of a bookshelf in the James B Duke LibraryWe’re thrilled to introduce Alicia, our newest addition to the Digital and Resource Management Division at the library. As our Financial Records and Acquisitions Assistant, Alicia plays a key role in ordering and receiving resources, ensuring that the materials we need are available for our students, faculty, and staff.

Getting to Know Alicia

Since stepping into her new role, Alicia has found joy in a unique aspect of her work—seeing the arrival of new items. It’s not just about processing orders; for Alicia, it’s about daydreaming of all the books she could potentially dive into. She’s also enjoying the opportunity to connect with her colleagues and learn more about the incredible work they do across the library.

Her love for reading is clear, with The Ministry of Time by Kaliane Bradley being a current favorite. As for comfort food, Alicia can’t resist a pasta dish with roasted vegetables or a batch of chewy chocolate chip cookies. And while she’s still investigating her favorite spot in the library, she knows one thing for sure—autumn is her favorite season, perfect for cozy reading sessions.

Beyond the Library

Alicia might not have any pets, but she does have a cherished agave plant named Alvin. When it comes to beverages, she keeps it classic with water or an iced chai latte, but if she’s in the mood for something stronger, a Bees Knees cocktail is her go-to.

Music lovers will appreciate Alicia’s best concert experience: seeing The Decemberists in Austin, TX back in 2018. Though she’s not an avid sports fan, she does enjoy catching a basketball, tennis, or soccer game now and then.

For those curious about Alicia’s thoughts on librarianship, her advice is simple but invaluable: “Librarianship is broad. If possible, try volunteering at different types of libraries. Informational interviews and shadowing are a great way to make connections and to learn about different roles in the library world.”

We’re excited to have Alicia on our team and look forward to all the great contributions she’ll make to our library. Be sure to say hello the next time you see her around!
