The James B. Duke Library hosted “Citizen Diplomacy: A Cuban Art Exhibit” from March 11th – 29th. The exhibit was held in the atrium and hosted in collaboration with Nuance Galleries..
The exhibit showcased 11 artists from Baracoa, Bayamo and Santiago, Cuba including 30+ pieces from the Rob Rowen/Clyde Hensley Collection paired with new works from artists in East Cuba.
In connection with the exhibition, Furman hosted a CLP featuring guest speaker Soledad Pagliuca of The Friendship Association, a not-for-profit organization that promotes, fosters, and leads citizenship engagement and cultural exchanges between the citizens of the United States and Cuba.
The CLP focused on the concept of citizen diplomacy and how it has the potential to inform, influence, and foster mutual understanding between people across the world. Soledad Pagliuca’s lecture came alive as she reflected on citizen diplomacy in Cuba through the arts, education, and cultural exchange programs.
The Exhibit was co-sponsored by the Center for Inclusive Communities, the James B. Duke Library, the Furman Art Department, and the Greenville Journal in collaboration with Nuance Galleries.
