To celebrate National Poetry Month in April, the Library’s Special Collections and Archives and the English Department will co-sponsor South Carolina poet and internationally celebrated performer, Kurtis Lamkin. He will recite his poetry while accompanying himself on the kora, a twenty-one-stringed West African harp-lute. Kurtis Lamkin is a contemporary American embodiment of the ancient West African griot tradition, which blurs the boundaries between poet, singer and storyteller. Lamkin will also share the history and provenance of his kora.
Attendance for this event is capped at 225. Once the venue has reached capacity, no additional attendees will be allowed to enter. Students must present their student ID in order to attend.
