Contempt

Contempt

What is your pick for the coolest movie of all time? A difficult task, one that certainly would lead to many opinions, if asked of our blog’s readers.

Troy Patterson of Slate suggests a movie released 50 years ago this week is the coolest movie of all time: Contempt. This French movie is based on an Italian novel, starring Bridgette Bardot, Jack Palance and Michel Picocoli  and directed by Jean-Luc Godard at the end of his New Wave period. The movie examines the destruction of a young married couple’s relationship when the husband apparently trades on his sexy wife’s beauty and more to further a business deal. In a review when the movie debuted in the United States, the Los Angeles Timessays, “Godard wants not to just entertain the audience but stretch their minds.”

You can’t stream this film on Netflix, but you can find it in our library. See if you agree with Slate about this movie’s place in all time cool.
