Government Documents for Vacation and Travel
Now that the semester has ended, it is the perfect time to lace up your hiking boots and visit some of our nation’s parks. The National Park Service website is a great resource to use when planning your vacation. Another place where you can find information is in the Government Documents Collection located on the main floor of the James B. Duke Library. Since the Duke Library is one of the Federal Depository Libraries, we receive all sorts of interesting materials from the Department of the Interior, including National Park Service pamphlets and maps. Below is just a sample of what our pamphlet collection includes:
- national parks (Death Valley, Denali)
- monuments (Oregon Caves, Craters of the Moon)
- memorials (Flight 93, World War II)
- battlefields (Cowpens, Antietam)
- military parks (Shiloh)
- historical parks (Cumberland Gap, Sitka)
- historic sites (Hubbell Trading Post, Tuskegee Institute)
- lakeshores (Indiana Dunes)
- ecological preserves (Timucuan, Tallgrass Prairie)
- recreation areas (Big South Fork)
- historic reserves (Ebey’s Landing)
- historic trails (Oregon Trail)
- heritage corridors (Erie Canalway)
- parkways (Blue Ridge, Natchez Trace)
These and many other brochures are located in pamphlet binders at the end of the Federal documents. Just ask us if you need assistance.
