Mostly Medieval (CLP)
Wednesday, March 21, 4:30 to 5:30 pm
Pitts Room, Duke Library, 2nd floor
Last summer, the James B. Duke Library purchased a Medieval Manuscript Teaching Collection that contains fifteen original manuscript leaves. Thirteen of the leaves are medieval, one is a nineteenth-century page from the Koran, and one is an early twentieth-century gospel from Ethiopia. The documents originated in eight different countries and the dates range from 1250 to 1920.
Dr. Scott Gwara is the scholar and expert who assembled and sold this collection to the James B. Duke Library, and he has offered to provide an explanatory lecture. He will showcase the collection that the Duke Library purchased and outline how he created this particular set. He will demonstrate the uniqueness of the collection, commenting on individual pieces and their significance, and the manuscripts will be employed to punctuate his remarks.
Hope to see you there!
