Library Gems–The Curriculum Collection

When the library was enlarged and remodeled in 2004, plans were made to include a space for the Education Department’s Curriculum collection. This consisted of K-12 textbooks and instructional materials that education majors could use to prepare for going into the classroom.

Since then, Furman has become one of the repositories of textbooks that South Carolina is considering for classroom use. Any one in the community can come in to preview and evaluate these books. After the review period is over, the textbooks and kits become part of our Curriculum collection. The collection now resides in the last few rows of the Juvenile Collection on the ground floor.

Why is this a gem? Besides the obvious usefulness to education majors, some of the textbooks deliver practical information in an organized and easy-to-read format! Is your car making a funny sound? Look at Automotive technology: principles, diagnosis, and service (TL152.PH 1999). Want to make a special flower arrangement? Try The art of floral design (SB449.DEL 2000). Need to brush up on your algebra or tutoring someone? Algebra 1: concepts and skills (QA154.2 .HM 2010 Gr.9-12) might be just what you need.
