Moodle 2 Instructor Workshops Summer 2012

There are no formal Moodle workshops scheduled at this time. However, there are two informal Moodle drop-ins on August 20 and August 21 from 2 PM – 4 PM. Please stop by Library room 039 for assistance with anything Moodle related.

Moodle workshops are held in the ITS training room, Library room 042. If you would like to schedule other times to learn about Moodle individually or as a group, or would like specialized training sessions, please contact the Service Center at (864)294-3277 or Email Cort Haldaman.

Moving Moodle course materials

It is a fairly easy process to move content from the coursesarchive server to the new Moodle 2 server. Below is the basic process. If you have any trouble, please contact the Service Center at x3277. The most common error that occurs is if you are trying to move more than 256 MB of course content at one time. ITS staff would be happy to assist if you run into this error or have any questions.

First, identify and go to the course on http://coursesarchive.furman.edu that contains the materials you wish to move. If you do not see your course in your list of available courses, please contact the Service Center.

Next, click on Backup under the list of Administration links.

On the following page, select the content you wish to move to the new server. If you are simply moving resources, you do not need to elect to back up the User Data. Click Continue, and click continue again on the next page. The system will then start processing the backup file. This may take a few minutes. Eventually you will be taken to another page where you can click Continue a third time.

You should now see a .zip file labeled with the date and the course short name. You can click on it and download it to your computer. You are now done with the archive server, and can now move over and log into https://courses.furman.edu. Click on your new, blank course.

Click on the Restore link (under Administration on the left-hand side of the page).

Click on the Choose a file… button, then the Upload a file link, click the Browse button to choose the zip file archive you just created of your course content, and then click the Upload button. Finally, click the Restore button to begin the restore process.

On the confirmation page, click Continue and then choose to merge the backup file into the current course and click continue again. This process may take a few minutes, so please be patient.

Click Next. You will now be on a confirmation page. Make sure you want everything from the backup, then click Next once again. Finally, click on Perform restore. You should see a green confirmation message that your restore was successful. Click continue and you should see your old course content on the new site.

If you run into any errors or problems, please remember to contact the ITS Service Center at (864)294-3277.
