OLLI NOTES August 9, 2019
We are looking forward to Fall Registration next week! We will resume regular office hours on Monday, August 12: 8:30-5, Monday-Thursday; 8:30-4 on Fridays. The office number is 864-294-2998.

A Parking Pass Note: We have not received 2019-2020 parking passes from Furman Police as of yet. Notification will go out to all members when they are available for purchase.

You should have received your copy of the Fall 2019 brochure. Fall registration begins at 8 a.m. Tuesday, August 13 for those purchasing course packages and 8 a.m. Thursday, August 15 for all others. Pre-registration runs through Friday, August 9 at 4 p.m. During pre-registration, you can purchase your annual membership and a course package. Pre-registration is not required, but it’s a great way to get those purchases out of the way before course registration. It’s also a great time to make sure you have your user name and password correct. If you have trouble with either of these, please call the OLLI Office at 864-294-2998.

**Please note that we are not able to take credit card orders through the mail or in the office due to Furman network security compliance issues. All orders made via mail or in person must be paid with a check or cash. We strongly encourage everyone to register online. It really is the fastest, easiest way to register for courses, and you can pay by credit card. Staff and volunteers will be in the office this week and next to help you, so if you are unfamiliar with the online registration system, come on in and we can help you through it.

Hints for Computer registration – (www.furman.edu/olli)
Click on “Register for Classes” and enter your user name and password. Your shopping cart will be empty, and you begin shopping by clicking on the grey box stating, “Return to course catalog page.” If the OLLI office assigned your user name, it will be First name.Last name. (If you changed it, or assigned it when creating your account, it may be something different.) Please be reminded that Fall registration requires you to first place the Annual Membership into your cart. Then proceed by adding your package selection (if applicable on August 13). Next, you will be able to select your classes and bonus events by adding them to your cart. If registering for single courses (August 15), you will begin by adding your Annual Membership and then go straight to selecting your classes and bonus events. If you have pre-registered (see above – August 5), you will NOT need to add a membership and/or package when you register for classes.
**Please keep in mind that loading of pages on the website may be slower than normal due to
the high volume of traffic on registration days.**

Class Lottery Reminder: As part of our ongoing effort to enhance and improve the OLLI registration experience, we are testing the use of a priority allocation system with fourteen of our fall courses (listed below). When registering for these courses, you must select the “Request a course” option to be placed in a lottery. The deadline to participate in the lottery is August 19 at 8 a.m. You will be notified by email by 5 p.m. on August 20 to let you know whether you are in the course or on the waitlist. You may choose to register for a backup class, and then drop it if you are randomly selected for the lottery course. Those not randomly selected for the course will be placed on a waitlist and called if a space opens up. The waiting list order will also be set by lottery.

TRAVEL WITH OLLI

Join in the Kayaking and More to the Lowcountry trip this September 14-15! Share a Lowcountry nature adventure with fellow OLLI travelers! Over two days a local guide will escort us as we immerse ourselves into some of South Carolina’s best kept secrets. We will kayak the beautiful blackwater Wambaw Creek, which offers spectacular birding and wildlife viewing along the banks of abandoned rice fields. The Center for Birds of Prey in Awendaw, SC will provide a unique opportunity as we enjoy a tour with expert guides along with a raptor flying demonstration with a chance to study the natural history of birds of prey. And for those looking for a chance to explore… we will spend time on Morris Island, one of South Carolina’s undeveloped barrier islands located in the mouth of the Charleston Harbor. Home for the night will be the Hampton Inn & Suites Charleston/Mt. Pleasant-Isle of Palms. Trip cost is $450 which includes hotel accommodations, transportation (motor coach and ferry), all programs/entrances, three meals (breakfast, one lunch and one dinner). Register now in the OLLI office or call 864.294.2998.
