Celebrating 25 years of Learning in Retirement
OLLI Office Hours for Thanksgiving week: Monday and Tuesday 8:30-4:30 p.m. Our Office is closed Wed-Fri.

Winter 2019 Registration was a success and we appreciate all those who took part. We are looking forward to the upcoming semester and hope you are excited for your course selections! Registration continues and many courses still have openings.

Believe it or not, it’s almost time to deck the halls! Help decorate the OLLI Tree at 10 a.m. Tues., Nov. 27. Bring a treat to share and enjoy music to get into the spirit as we prepare Manly Lobby for the holidays.

OLLI/FULIR 25th ANNIVERSARY
We hope to see you at the FULIR/OLLI 25th Anniversary Celebration at the Greenville Convention Center on Thurs, November 29! This is our “big anniversary event” and all should have received mailed invitations. The Celebration Committee has been hard at work to ensure that this culminating event is a true night to remember. Your gift to the OLLI Faculty Enrichment fund will help Furman faculty and students AND will bring new programming to OLLI. OLLI HAPPENINGS
Join Furman student Nicole Stephenson for an interactive math presentation on the “Math Behind Taxi Driver Directions.” Taxi driver might not be the first profession you think of when you think geometry but they have their own geometry whether they realize it or not. You will explore the geometry that taxi cab drivers use to find the quickest route from point A to point B. Circles are not what they seem, not all the rules we know about triangles are true. Call the OLLI office to sign up. Wednesday, November 28 at 1 p.m. in HC111.

OLLI@Furman Winter 2019 Baiden Exhibit Jan 14-Mar 11, 2019. The theme is It’s a Blue Thang and offers the challenge to create images that feature the color BLUE. Put on your thinking caps and incorporate BLUE in a photograph, drawing, painting, weaving, fiber arts, etc. OLLI members and staff are invited to submit artwork. Submission dates are Dec 10-14. Please submit only ONE entry! Forms available on the OLLI website or in the OLLI Office.

OLLI Annual Christmas Caroling will be on Tuesday, December 4 at Heartland Healthcare Center of Berea. We’ll meet at OLLI for rehearsal at 1 pm., carpool to Heartland and perform 3:15-4:15 p.m. This has been an enjoyable event for several years, and we welcome former and new singers. Cocoa and Carols with the Chorale! The Herring Chamber Ensemble of the Greenville Chorale will join us in Manly Lobby to present a program of seasonal music. What’s Going on at Furman?
Help Furman students! Please find below the link to a survey that designed by a Politics and International Affairs class at Furman. The goal of this survey is to explore opinions on the issue of immigration. As an OLLI participant, the students are requesting your participation in this survey. This survey is completely confidential and will take approximately 5 minutes to complete. We appreciate any help you can give to our Furman students as they strive to learn more about the issue of immigration. Survey here.

Furman Symphony Orchestra (FSO) and Oratorio Chorus will present Haydn’s “The Creation” Fri, Nov. 30, at 8 p.m. in McAlister Auditorium on the Furman University campus. Open to the public and is presented by the Furman Department of Music. Tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for seniors. Purchase tickets here.

Furman University will host its annual Moravian Christmas Love Feast service Sun, Dec. 2, at 5 p.m. in Daniel Memorial Chapel on campus. The event is free and open to the public and is presented by the Furman Office of Spiritual Life. The service includes the serving of traditional Moravian buns and coffee, and the lighting of beeswax candles in Daniel Chapel, which will be illuminated by pew candle staffs and decorated with holiday greenery. Furman University will host Arthur C. Brooks, president of the American Enterprise Institute (AEI), on
Tues, Dec. 4, at 5 p.m. in Watkins Room @ Trone Student Center. His talk, “Bringing America Together” is free to the public. The lecture is the second in the five-part Tocqueville series, “Love, Friendship and Politics.”
