OLLI/FULIR 25th ANNIVERSARY
We hope you have saved the date for the FULIR/OLLI 25th Anniversary Celebration at the Greenville Convention Center on Thurs, November 29! This is our “big anniversary event” and all should have received mailed invitations. The Celebration Committee has been hard at work to ensure that this culminating event is a true night to remember. OLLI HAPPENINGS
The Lewis and Clark Expedition class invites ALL OLLI members to join in for the showing of the movie The Far Horizons, which will be shown after class in HC 110 on Nov 14, at 2:30. The movie is a VERY Hollywood version of the journey of the Corp of Discovery. Join us for several laughs and some great scenery!

Join Furman student Nicole Stephenson for an interactive math presentation on the “Math Behind Taxi Driver Directions.” Taxi driver might not be the first profession you think of when you think geometry but they have their own geometry whether they realize it or not. You will explore the geometry that taxi cab drivers use to find the quickest route from point A to point B. Circles are not what they seem, not all the rules we know about triangles are true. Call the OLLI office to sign up. Wednesday, November 28 at 1 p.m. in HC111.

OLLI Annual Christmas Caroling will be on Tuesday, December 4 at Heartland Healthcare Center of Berea. We’ll meet at OLLI for rehearsal at 1 pm., carpool to Heartland and perform 3:15-4:15 p.m. This has been an enjoyable event for several years, and we welcome former and new singers. For information, contact Connie by email or 864.915.2461. It is important for us to know in advance how many will be there to sing.

OLLI@Furman Winter 2019 Baiden Exhibit Jan 14-Mar 11, 2019. The theme is It’s a Blue Thang and offers the challenge to create images that feature the color BLUE. Put on your thinking caps and incorporate BLUE in a photograph, drawing, painting, weaving, fiber arts, etc. OLLI members and staff are invited to submit artwork. Submission dates are Dec 10-14. Please submit only ONE entry! NOTE: Submission Requirements and Form available in the OLLI Office or Here.

What’s Going on at Furman?
Furman University’s Dan Koppelman will be joined by guest artists to present an evening of improvised music for piano, synthesizer, guitar, and saxophone. Mon, Nov 12, 8 p.m. Daniel Recital Hall. The concert will feature a wide range of styles, from jazz-inflected tunes to freely improvised chamber music.

Furman University Department of Art will host ceramic sculptor Kimberly Riner in an exhibition, Human Fragility on Nov. 12-Dec. 9 in Thompson Gallery of the Roe Art Building on campus. Regular Thompson Gallery hours are Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Reception Mon, Nov. 12, 6-7:30 p.m. Free!

Furman Associate Professor of Art Ross McClain will speak Thurs, Nov. 15, at 7 p.m. in Daniel Memorial Chapel on campus. McClain will deliver the L.D. Johnson Memorial Lecture, “What Really Matters?” His talk is free and open to the public. A reception in the Bryan Garden Room follows his address.

Turkey Trot 2018 Thurs, Nov 15, 11-12:30 p.m. Enjoy a 1 or 3 mile walk! Starting on Furman campus at the Paladin statue. Snacks and prizes awarded. No pre-registration required. Registration begins at 10:30am.

Furman Symphonic Winds, under the direction of Leslie W. Hicken, presents their concert, “Fall Classics” on Fri, Nov. 16 at 8 p.m. in McAlister Auditorium. Tickets at the door, $5. For info, call (864) 294-3193

Ashley Kirby, OLLI Member Jeanne Blinkoff, and Furman Professor, Bob Chance, along with 140 other artists at 89 locations around Greenville during this weekend of art exhibits and showings!
