Celebrating 25 years of Learning in Retirement
Fall registration continues! Please refer to your confirmation e-mail and note the “class status” for the courses for which you registered (registered, registered not paid, waitlist). For anyone showing a registered not paid status, you are registered for the course and just need to pay for it.

If you are brand-new member, we will make a nametag for you, which you can pick up at the New Member Orientation OR at your first class. There is no need to make a special trip out to the office for your nametag. Returning OLLI members, please use the nametag you already have.

Stop by the office to pick up OLLI Brochures to share with friends, neighbors and at spots around town. YOU are our best advertisement.

StraightTalk begins Thursday! Register now for Who Gets to Be an American? Immigration and the Fight for America’s Future, presented by OLLI and the Riley Institute at Furman, which will take place on Thursday evenings (6:30-8:30p.m.) August 30, September 6 and 13. OLLI HAPPENINGS
A group of interested people is excited about the Hand Chime SIG group that will be meeting on Wednesdays from 12:20-1:20 pm in room HC111. There is a good number of folks who are ready to ring the chimes and would be grateful to have some additional ringers. The first rehearsal will be on September 12. If you have played hand bells, hand chimes, or can read music, please consider our invitation to join the hand chime group. Hopefully, hand chimes can be used to help entertain at Olli functions! The OLLI Bowling SIG will begin a 14 week league on Monday, 9/10/18 at 12:50pm. The league bowls at AMF Star Lanes (740 S Pleasantburg/Cleveland St.) Teams consist of two people. Bowlers may sign up as individuals or as a team. Individuals will be matched with a teammate if they are without one. Cost for the season is $126/$9 per week. This is a handicap league and you don’t have to be a good bowler to have fun! Anyone interested please contact Michael Halloran.
Are you interested in getting involved as a volunteer at OLLI? We currently have openings for Class Liaisons. Training will be September 6, 1:30 in Room hc113 for new volunteers or for a refresher on the details of acting as a class liaison. Come out to training to find out about this fun way to serve at OLLI! For more information contact Pam Roberson or call the OLLI office.

What’s GOING ON in and around Greenville?
Gettysburg Miniature Diorama Battlefield History Talks will be ongoing Saturday, August 25, 1:00-3:00 p.m. and Saturday, September 1, 1:00-3:00 p.m. in the Village of West Greenville, 1239 Pendleton St, Greenville. Historian, Rob Rowen will be giving Gettysburg Battlefield talks using his miniature battlefields; exploring the various stages of the battle, the field decisions made by various commanders and the role which South Carolina troops played in the battle. Greenville Jewish Film Festival is hosting a kickoff event on Sunday, August 26, which will include a catered reception at 5 p.m. and a screening of the movie, “In Search of Israeli Cuisine” at 6:30 p.m. at the Greenville One Center. Tickets are $25 available and available at Facebook.

M.Judson: Page Pairings-August 27, 6:30p.m. Six books and six wines that share the same spirit, including authors M. J. Pullen, Darren Wang, and Amy Willoughby-Burle. Science on Tap is this Tuesday, August 28, from 6:30- 7:45 pm at Coffee Underground in downtown Greenville. Our topic is “Downtown Diversity: The Amazing Fishes Living in Your Backyard Streams” and will be led by Dr. Brandon Peoples from the Forestry and Environmental Conservation Department at Clemson University. The Peoples’ lab studies fishes and the habitats that sustain them, including urban habitats. For more info on Brandon, visit his blog.

Interested in learning more about transportation issues in Greenville? ReUnited invites you to a meeting to discuss the challenging issues that growth may bring to our city, including traffic congestion and lack of parking. ReUnited is United Way of Greenville County’s way to connect retirees with the ongoing mission of building a cycle of success for all. The event will be August 29 at 9 a.m. at Stella’s Southern Brasserie. Guest Speakers will include Gary Shepard, Director from Greenlink and Carlos Phillips, President of the Greenville Chamber of Commerce. R.S.V.P.

Looking for a stimulating Bible study opportunity? Community Bible Study (CBS) is a 30-week course of study for groups of men, women, and couples (young and old).
