The OLLI Office is open 8:30-5 Monday-Thursday, and 8:30-4 on Fridays.  Our number is 864-294-2998.

 

Summer registration continues!  Register online or in the OLLI office. The brochure is on the website and in the office. Pick up one for yourself and a few more to share with friends and neighbors.  Summer is a great time to try OLLI for the first time.  Classes are just $35 and there is no membership requirement. It’s a great time to encourage a friend to try out OLLI!

Sign Up by Wednesday, May 17! Join emcee Linda Kelly to celebrate our homerun year at OLLI at our annual Spring Luncheon on Tuesday, May 23 at the Younts Center. Doors open at 11:30 for fellowship at the pavilion next door (cash bar available).  Enjoy a buffet lunch at noon including Arugula and Watermelon Salad, Grilled Corn and Heirloom Tomato with Vidalia Onion Vinaigrette, BBQ Baked Beans, Cheesy Potatoes, Pulled Pork or Pulled Chicken Sliders and a sweet treat!  Congratulate the new Volunteer of the Year, elect OLLI Council members, and visit with OLLI friends old and new. It so happens that OLLI Council President, Margaret Clark, is OLLI’s number one baseball fan. Dress is casual and all are encouraged to embrace the baseball theme! TRAVEL WITH OLLI

In the Heart of Europe: The Czech Republic  We are delighted to announce that Furman professor Michael Svec, Dr. Svec is offering an opportunity for OLLI members to travel to the Czech Republic this September 4-13, 2017. Immerse yourself in Prague, the ancient capital of the Kingdom of Bohemia. This travel program allows you to come to know the Czech Republic in a more intimate way. Walk the same streets as Holy Roman emperors, saints, writers, composers, scientists, and occupying armies. Take time to enjoy some of the best beer in the world on the shores of the Vltava River listening to Smetana’s ode to that very river. Breathe in a millennium of culture, architecture, history, and music. The trip includes exploring the countryside of Southern Bohemia with overnight stay in Cesky Krumlov, one of Europe’s most picturesque towns and an UNESCO World Heritage Site.​

You may have heard that there’s a total solar eclipse happening on Monday, August 21, and it will pass right over Greenville!  Furman University and OLLI are planning some educational and fun events for that day.  Watch your inbox for more information as the date approaches.

What’s GOING ON at Furman University?

 

The Dining Hall will operate with the following schedule through May 31: Breakfast-7:30-9 a.m.; Lunch-11 a.m.-1 p.m.; Dinner, 5:30-6:30 p.m. The Paladen and Tupelo Honey Café will not be open during the summer.  To see summer hours and daily menus, click here.

 

The Furman Paladin Baseball Team will take on VMI in a home series at Latham Baseball Stadium this weekend! May 12 (6 p.m.), May 13 (4 p.m. and May 14 (1 p.m.).  Single game tickets are $5. Come cheer on the Paladins!

 

Celebrate Armed Forces Day with the Upcountry History Museum on Saturday, May 20 from 10 a.m. -4 p.m. A variety of events are scheduled following the Opening Ceremony, including a Veterans Forum, film screenings of Lethal Landscapes: Canvases of the Combat Artist, gallery tours, oral history opportunities, children’s activities and keynote address from retired US Navy Commander, Dr. Chip Beck. What’s GOING ON in and around Greenville?

 

The Upstate Winds Concert Band invites you to join them for the indoor concert at Mauldin First Baptist Church on Saturday, May 27 at 7:00 p.m. (dinner provided)  They will also perform on Sunday, May 28, at Furman’s Lakeside Amphitheater at 3:00 p.m.  Bring your lawn chairs, picnic basket, and enjoy the patriotic program. Furman grad Brenda McClain, who grew up on a farm in Anderson County, will discuss her critically acclaimed first novel (starred Booklist, Okra pick) One Good Mama Bone at Fiction Addiction at 6 p.m. on Thursday, May 18. It’s about a woman trying to be a good mother to her husband’s son by allowing him to raise a steer in a competition — not knowing he will have to send the animal he loves to auction. The program is free.
