We have had a great response to this new program and gave out all 100 books at Back to OLLI.  If you got one, please read and return it to the office (not the Book Nook) as soon as possible so that other members can enjoy it.  We have also ordered more copies and hope to have them here by Tuesday.

 

Whether you’ve read Ron Rash’s One Foot in Eden yet or not, you’ll enjoy REO’s first event, a screening of the 1960 movie classic Wild River in the theater at the Upcountry History Museum Fri., Jan. 20, 1-3:30 p.m. OLLI member hosts Judy and Gary Aten will show how the movie’s setting and cultural impact foreshadow that of our book. This Elia Kazan/Montgomery Clift/Lee Remick film is preserved in the U.S. National Film Registry for its cultural, historic and aesthetic significance. Get ready to laugh, cry and flat out have a great time as you meet one of the most influential women in world history. Chautauqua History Alive presents a private OLLI performance of Eleanor Roosevelt, the Power of Words, Saturday, February 4 at 4 p.m. at the Herring Center. You’ll have lots of questions. And Eleanor Roosevelt will answer them. Enjoy a reception with wine and hors d’oeuvres at 4 p.m., presentation at 5 p.m. Space is limited; purchase your ticket in the OLLI office for just $5.

 

French SIG: Ce semestre le SIG français deviendra un club du livre. Nous lirons un livre français et l’utiliserons comme point de départ pour notre discussion.  Nous commencerons avec  “Stupeur et tremblements, ” un livre de Amélie Nothomb. Vous pouvez acheter l’édition français en ligne à Amazon. Nous accueillerons les personnes qui ont des notions de français, parlé ou écrit. Le SIG se réunira mardi le 17 Janvier au centre Herring de 12:20 à 13:20, salle 113.

OLLI On Stage’s winter production will be a staged reading (well-rehearsed, but NOT memorized) of several revue sketches from Silver Linings by Tony Talen.  Actors and crew needed!  Auditions:  12:30pm on Monday, January 23 (HC111) and Wednesday, January 25 (HC104). The Furman University Art Department will host a photography exhibition Jan. 17-Feb. 21 in Thompson Gallery of the Roe Art Building on the Furman campus. Gallery hours are 9 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday-Friday.

 

The Music Department welcomes Sympatico Percussion Group Jan. 18, 8 p.m., Daniel Recital Hall. Free.

 

The SC Intercollegiate Honor Band, under the direction of guest clinician, Dr. Rodney Dorsey, will present a free concert at 2 pm Sat., Jan. 21 in McAlister Auditorium.  Dr. Dorsey is Director of Bands at the University of Oregon School of Music.  He has a host of credentials that establish him as one of the most prominent wind band conductors in America.  The Honor Band includes students from 17 colleges and universities in SC.

Help a Clemson Student!  The Clemson CVT Leadership program is looking for volunteers to participate in our state-of-the-art, noninvasive ultrasound scan lab.
