HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

 

The OLLI Office will be closed November 26 through November 28. We hope you enjoy a wonderful Thanksgiving. The Office will reopen Monday, November 30.

 

Registration continues online and in the office. Some classes and bonus events have already filled, so please consider having a backup. If you are on a waitlist, please know that we are working to see where we can add people to classes. Please keep in mind that each member may sign up for two Bonus Events. If you are on a Bonus Event waitlist, you can add one more.

 

Reminder to all interested in offering a Spring16 class: the course proposal form deadline is December 4.

What’s GOING ON at OLLI during the holiday season?

The OLLI Paladin Pass is your ticket to discounts and privileges on campus. If you enjoy $5 meals at the dining hall, use the library, or play a few rounds at Furman’s golf course, you’ll need one beginning in January. It also entitles you to discounts at the Fitness Center, the bookstore and restaurants in the student center, and more. We will not make these automatically for all members—sign up in the office or email Carson Ruffrage.

 

The final play in the 2015 RSC series is William Shakespeare’s Henry V. See it tonight, Friday, Nov. 20 at 4 p.m. or Saturday, Nov. 21 at 7 p.m. in Burgiss Theatre in Trone Student Center. Tickets just $16 at the door.

 

Believe it or not, it’s almost time to deck the halls! Help decorate the OLLI Tree at 10 a.m. Tues., Nov. 24. Bring a treat to share and enjoy music to get into the spirit as you get Manly Lobby ready for the holidays.

For those who signed up for OLLI Thanksgiving Potluck on Thur., Nov. 26 – be on the lookout for an e-mail on Monday, Nov. 23. Directions will be included in the e-mail and are also available in the OLLI Office.

The Out and About Singles SIG will have a Christmas Party on Thursday, December 3 at 1:30 in Room 113. Come and meet other members, join in a Christmas Trivia game, and maybe a surprise play!!!! Please bring a snack to share. Soft drinks provided. RSVP to Susan or Carolyn.

A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to Christmas! Join us at 3 p.m. Thursday, December 3, HC110 for “Far As the Curse is Found,” a performance by the all-woman cast of the Good Hearted but Small-Talented Players. This holiday event benefits a library at the public Greenville Child Development Center. Admission is by donation or the gift of a new or gently loved book for a 4-year-old.   Books may also be donated into the New Year in the Marvin Book Nook. Questions? Need book suggestions? Our annual Christmas Caroling will be on Thurs, Dec. 3 at Heartland Healthcare Center of Greenville East. We’ll meet at OLLI for rehearsal at 1 p.m., carpool to Heartland and perform 3:15-4:15 p.m. This has been an enjoyable event for several years, and we welcome former and new singers. Join us for one of our favorite traditions – OLLI Breakfast in the Dining Hall Saturday, Dec. 5, 9-11 a.m.! Only $5 with your OLLI nametag.

 

Join OLLI friends, wear purple and cheer on the Furman Men’s Basketball Team on OLLI Night! Furman vs. Liberty on Tuesday, December 8 at 7 p.m. at Timmons Arena.   Tickets are just $10 in the OLLI office. The team is off to a great start, winning their first three games. Let’s help them continue that success!

Cocoa and Carols with the Chorale! Members of the Greenville Chorale will join us in Manly Lobby. They will present a concert of seasonal songs.  You’ll also enjoy a Christmas sing-a-long, warm drinks, yummy desserts and social time with OLLI friends on Monday, December 14 at 7 p.m.  Free!  Reservations are helpful.  Call the office to let us know you’ll be there.

 

Many of you have enjoyed the OLLI Photography Showcase in the Crabtree Room.  We are pleased to announce that the third exhibition will run in January 2016.  If you are an OLLI member and wish to participate send your name, the title of your artwork, email address, and a digital copy (medium sized JPEG – 2048 pixels on the long side) of your art to furmanolliphoto@gmail.com. Submissions are due no later than Dec. 16. Only one submission per artist please.  A copy of the guidelines can be picked up at the OLLI office.

 

What’s GOING ON at Furman University?

Support the students of Bridges to a Brighter Future: Join Bridges for an afternoon full of fun, creativity, and adventure at the Woodlands on Nov. 21 from 1:30-3 p.m. Come play games, share your stories of travel, and decorate for the holidays!

 

The Furman Music Department’s Sound Quality Concert Series continues on December 4 at 8 p.m. with Handel’s Messiah featuring the Furman Singers and Chorale. $10 for tickets!
